Hi guys I am getting ready to purchase a sonic 7 kit and I would like to know how complex a build it is and things to look out for and any tips for a first time kit car builder with some mechanical skills

HI there
I am at teh end fo the build, and I have to say the build has been realtively easy
I ahve built a few diferent Robin hoods and I know people look at them due to cost, but by the time you spend correcting things to make them work, you have sepnt more time and moeny to get them to fit.
the sonic was a dream to build, very easy to assemble. the only problems I have had have been self inflicted, and caued by things that I did not follow the instructions.
I am sure you will enjoy the build I know I ahve

Thanks for that. How strict are they at the IVA if you are at that stage yet

HI there
They are strict at IVA, but that sounds like a frightening thing, but it realy is not,
I was supposed to go to test last monday but a slight issue with cooling meant it was not ready (my own fault)
in my exprience of the VOSA guys, they are only making sure that the car is safe to drive, and all of what they check is to make sure it is safe for you and others. Last time, I was there, the examiner was very good with the car we had taken, and told us what we could do resolve all the fail points
I would not be frightened of this stage, it is not as bad as you everyone makes out.
go for it, you will love it, and the finished car is superb

I am looking at a focus 1.8 but I'm not sure what spec would be better

I would go with the 1.8 route, all the parts are then on your donor vehicle
I went the 2.0l route, but whilst this did not pose too many problems, additional parts in terms of gearbox, driveshafts hubs etc were required as a result, and just made it slightly more complicated.
enjoy and keep us posted.
