hi all, i very very nearly put the order in for a rocket last christmas but then got distracted with building a focus rs from a stripped rs shell i was offered too cheap to turn down and a spare focus rs engine i just `happened` to have lying around.. (was intended for the mev!)
anyway my heart has never been in the rs as iv owned one before and although its nearly finished im finding myself looking at these d**n rockets again!!!
now since i have a full focus rs to use as a donor, il either be looking into using the rs wider track or just the engine and associated parts and mating them to some 2.0 parts...
but there one final question i need an answer to!
im 6 foot 4 and find leg room in a lot of cars slightly cramped, i know the rocket seats would be mounted to how i need them to an extent but is there anybody else around my height had any problems with leg room or head height in one of these cars??
any help appreciated. alex

Hi Alex, Glad to hear that you are nearly ready to take the plunge, you won't regret it. I'm 6' 2" and fit into my Rocket easily; here.... www.mevowners.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rocket&action=display&thread=43&page=3My Roll Bar is about 4" further forward than everyone else's too so if you go for the standard Roll Bar you would have even more leg room. My seat is ~2" forward of my Roll Bar too and my leg is fully outstretched with the clutch fully depressed. My seats are low though, about 6mm above the floor which helps with leg clearance around the steering wheel (and helps lower C of G too!) Hope this helps..... PS: Check the size of the RS engine in the chassis first, I think the Turbo might be close to the cross bar but could be accounted for at the fabrication stage. Good luck!

cheers thats the answer i was looking for really..
yeah when i was in talks with mev last year they told me if i could get the engine upto them with the intended manifold and turbo they could move the engine mounting points to suit so that would be great..
i was thinking about intercooler mounting points and obviously heat shielding required between the turbo and the bulkhead/ fueltank/ seat but im sure this would all be ironed out during the build, so far i havnt heard of anybody using the rs engine? although im sure there must of been a big power turbo rocket made by now!

i too am 6'4" tall and had the same worries but i had a sit in the sonic up at stoneleigh this year and was supprised by the amount of space i actually had to move the seat forward to be happy, the only thing that worries me is the height of the roll bar but then againi sat in a mx5 mk3 race car at the autosport show and d it had the lowest seat setting they had and my head was still above the rollcage

Hi alex,
Being 6'3 i had the same question before buying my rocket - DONT worry! there is plenty of room! infact, i have to pull the seat forward to be comfortable with the pedals...
Cheers, Ol

thanks for the replies.
the build that i have planned would include the mtx75 box bolted to the 2.0 turbo, but from reading the forum im led to believe the box doesnt fit in the rocket. no doubt the ib5 wouldnt last long with a 2.0 turbo power plant
on the other hand i believe the 2.0 zetec and the mtx75 box would slot into a sonic 7 relatively easily?
