it'll be fine so long as its fully seated back in its hole and torque up without it spinning round - not sure why they make out its detrimental to the handling since its separate to the suspension components... had this problem when I changed the clutch on my dad's mx5, guy I was working with wrenched off the PPF with a lever instead of unbolting the lower spacer on the diff (he claimed that's the only way to get them off!! - certainly made me cringe). as the frame had bent slightly at the top I couldn't get one of the bolts started which had pushed the bushing out as a result, therefore I had to take it all off again and properly seat it all and try again (yes the lower spacer was unbolted to prove a point!). the long and short of this is the car drives and handles fine despite someone's ham fisted-ness, he doesn't like mx5's as it turns out
