Hii All,
Lurker and potential builder. I envisage potentially having a go at an Autocross and possible track day here and there.
Aiming at 1992/3 as donor. I was planning to stay with the base 1.6 engine until later so this basically becomes a Miata with huge safety cage. That's very attractive as we have a 15 year old daughter interested in learning to drive. Since this is a fair weather car, it keeps her off the streets when its wet or nasty (which from a parental standpoint is a good thing, but since we live in WA might be considered the majority of the time...). Have no issue putting this on a limited mileage policy if necessary. We currently get all of our insurance through AAA What's the scoop on getting one of these insured? Anyone know what the current lead time is? Many thanks cheers

Subscribed. I got a quote for a Specialty Constructed Vehicle thru Geico. Wasn't expensive and I'm not sure of the terms or coverage but it seems like insurance for any normal car.

Take a look at Hagerty insurance. My parent have several classic cars and even an SRT 6 crossfire and you basically set the value of the car.

Hagerty offers something called "declared value" insurance. Basically you tell them what you want your car to be insured for and they send someone out to appraise your vehicle to see if its worth it.
Then they tell you that you can't race your car or drive it more than a few thousand miles a year and that your car will only be used to drive to and from shows and nothing else....
In short, Hagerty isn't worth it (assuming they take you)

bump to the top.
Anyone insured and Exocet recently stateside? I am about a week away from trying to register mine and part of the process requires me to show proof of insurance.
I am currently using progressive and haven't tried to talk to them yet, just want to see what other people are using.

I have all of My insurance trough USAA. After I received a VIN number I called them up and told them that I wanted to add a specially constructed vehicle policy with an agreed value of $25000. Five minutes later I printed out the insurance card and headed to the DMV to get plates. It costs about the same to insure as my Harley.

Just finished up mine with Rally's, which sent me to American Modern. $20k coverage, matches my current car coverage, 3k miles/year, $290/year.
