Today I spent an entire day and felt like I accomplished absolutely nothing. I picked up my parts from the powder coaters. After further inspection I am very dissapointed in a couple of things. The powder looks pretty good and the prep work was alright. It's not show quality but that is fine. The issue I have is that I discussed the issue of powder coating the upper front control arms. I specifically said I wanted the ball joints wrapped up and to be hung so that if any extra grease ran out it wouldn't ruin the entire arm. They listened and hung them the right way but they never taped them off, in fact one of the ball joints no longer exists in the arm. not sure how that happend. The other has been powdercoated and the boot is no longer on it. I found that I can order some new ball joints with zerk fittings from v8 roadsters. they should press in and then I will tack weld them in place for extra security. It sucks that I just had to spend another $150 but I think I will be happier in the end that they have been replaced. I also got a "stocking stuffer" early from the wife (black friday sale). I also finshed taking out the last two bushings for the rear diff. Those were the worst bushings out of the whole bunch, I'm glad that is over. I was going to insert my new bushings but ran out of time tonight. I am going to add zerk fittings to each bushing. I have also decided to order all new calipers front and rear (remanufactured). It looks like Autozone has a sale with gift cards (25 dollars for every 100 you spend) that will total about $225 for all 4 after everything is said and done.

Small update. I haven't been able to sneak into the garage lately. Daddy duties have slowed things down. I picked up a used turbo and manifold this afternoon (older cast FM manifold and Garret 2560). It looks like I'm going to turbo right out of the gate. I just need to figure out FMIC and hopefully find a used MSPNP and some injectors. I also ordered the new balljoints from v8roadsters. those should arrive this thursday. I am still on the fence with coil overs and what wheels and tires to use.
I have tomorrow free and its going to be a day in the garage. I hope to have the ppt back together. then its on to engine maintenance work.

I did not accomplish very much today. I spent most of the time sitting around the computer doing some research on turbo related things as I am now going to be running some boost. I do have a question about a coolant reroute. I plan to reroute my coolant setup but want to know if its possible to bypass the entire thermostat housing neck. Mine was broken in the accident and I want to know If i can just reroute the lines as posted in my picture. It maybe a stupid question but it would be nice just to put a freeze plug in the hole and keep it clean looking and save me a few dollars as well. I threw the turbo on real quick to test fit it. I'm going to have the manifold planed at a machine shop to make sure everything is perfect. I also finished painting the front and rear hub/knuckle assemblies. I haven't replaced the front upper control arm ball joints yet. they are due in tomorrow and I need to wait to use my brothers press. after I do that everything is ready to put back together. I have not heard my ship date on my chassis yet but I am assuming its within the next week or so. Am I the only one that has added Zerk fittings to their bushing? It was kind of a pain in the *** but hopefully will make life easier for me down the road.

Mine was broken in the accident and I want to know If i can just reroute the lines as posted in my picture. I'm planning on doing this re-route: revlimiter.net/blog/2011/05/coolant-re-route-1/I've already bought all the parts, incl the Kia thermostat housing from an East Coast dealer on ebay and the GM hose on rockauto. If I were to buy parts again, I may get this spacer instead of BEGi's: www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-sale-trade-5/cnc-machined-coolant-reroute-spacers-hose-barb-82451/And then I'm gonna remove the neck and use this: trackspeedengineering.com/product_info.php/products_id/157Altho I hate paying $20 for something so basic... Am I the only one that has added Zerk fittings to their bushing? It was kind of a pain in the *** but hopefully will make life easier for me down the road. I am planning on doing it too. Hey, maybe I should come down to P-Town and enlist your help with that :-) Which Zerks did you buy?

I never want to see a zerk fitting again. I went with some zerk that I had laying around for ages. I think they were cheapo ones and I wouldn't go that route again. I also went with a harbor freight tap and die set and that thing was a POS. I have another thing that I have been contemplating. It's not my idea, mrvwcastner mentioned it while I was looking at his car. Since I am going to be using megasquirt and I hate the bulky harness. I am thinking of going with a DIY MS3 kit where I build the board (lots of soldering experience). I would then go with a simple ez wiring harness for the rest of the lights. I would completely scrap the entire old harness and ECU. ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.htmlThoughts?

With the M-tuned coolant reroute, you can cap off that coolant neck fitting right at the block. It has threaded ports you need for the coolant hoses that normally go there.

It has been awhile since I have updated my thread. Life has been busy with a young one in daycare, it seems like someone is always sick in the household. I did received my kit and have started to mock up everything. At the UPS freight center waiting for them to load it up. Made it home I put the chassis on my PPF to check and make sure everything was okay. The donor was in a pretty significant head on with a telephone pole. Everything matched up perfectly. I also picked up some new bilsteins from a local miata guy. I am still trying to figure out spring rates. (My son Aidan approves) If anyone has some spare NB top hats let me know, Im looking for a set. Maybe some stock springs too for the mean time. I purchased a forza sport race seat but that is not going to work as far as clearance goes with me and a helmet (6'0"). I am going to be using Kirkey 47 series road race seats and I borrowed one from a local exocet owner to mock up some mounts. (thanks Sean) To be continued..

Bump!! Did you get the frame coated yet? Still doing shocker yellow? I haven't had It coated as I've been working on other projects freeing up funds. Our cars should be pretty similar builds. Especially if I stick with shocker yellow. I am picking up a set tomorrow from a local guy that has everything included (stock shocks, springs, tophats) for 75. Post the, up on eBay. Someone will snag them. I plan to use the stock setup to roll it around and will build my bilstein units in my spare time when the frame is out to powdercoat.

So I tried to order matte black holeshot wheels and was told they are definitely discontinued. I am now thinking about just running spacers and some advanti storm s1's. Will most likely order them today. I hate the idea of spacers but after researching them realized they will be safe if used correctly.
