Hi all,
I just signed up. I've been researching kit cars for a week or so and keep getting drawn to the Mev line. I like the fact that they are not copies of anything else and the designs are certainly bold!
I am not experienced with car mechanics at all which I guess makes this intimidating. Most of my hobbies revolve around making things and technical skills albeit at a much smaller scale - radio control helis and planes, building and modding PCs and watchmaking. I think I probably have the patience to build a kit car but there will be a big learning curve! Should I be worried?
I am drawn to the Exocet as it sounds like it will be an easy build (I apppreciate there isn't too much info yet) and I have fancied an mx5 for a while.
I am tempted to pick up an Mx5 when I can, drive it for a while (while I build up some funds) and then convert.
Does anyone have a view on what exocet performance will be like with a standard mx5 in 1.6 or 1.8 form?
Also, my biggest problem (other than total lack of experience) is I do not have a garage. I have a brick car port with proper roof so dry is no problem but security / protection from wind may be. Should I be waiting until we move somewhere with a garage / renting a garage locally to even consider this? My area is pretty good in terms of crime and I work from home / my wife is always at home, so there is someone here all the time.
So, I am pretty sure I will at some point be joining you mev builders but not sure if practically I can do it right now. I will be watching for Exocet news with interest! Cheers
