Hi everyone Keith here, I would like to here from anyone who has successfully used one the st 2.5 turbo engine or XR5 if from Australia I need to know if I can use the ECU from car and if so what I need to use as well eg fuel pump dash etc. I got a kit of Terry in WA at chrismas Time. Spent a couple of weeks on it but been too busy to look at it again until last week. I have made up some bolt on engine mounts etc, (the engine sits a little high but I'll deal with that later) I'v modified the fire wall so I can fit the boost hose and refitted some suspension/ shocky brackets so everything fits on in the front + I'v made bolt on top shocky brackets for rear. I had a radiator made in china through my business there. Boost hose hole cut into top rail . Diagonals removed to fit new rail
New top rail fitted, diagonals back I and roll bare plates refittedFront shocky mounts welded on and top brackets for a arm moved toward front , bottom ones toward rear so I can get 8 deg caster, same as on the other side. Rear removable top shocky mounts. I made these up because when they made the frame they used different shocks. Mine need to be removable because the engine is too big to get out. Up the inside seems to be the only way, trying to put them outside interferes with the A arm. That's about as far as I'v got so far.

Hi Keith. That car will be an animal when you get it going. I have recently finished my Rocket, just needs engineers report finished and sent to RMS for rego. There is another Rocket at the same engineers which is nearly finished. My advice is use the standard ECU to get through rego if you can because you don't have to do the emissions test. You will probably need the fuel pump, engine loom, steering column with matching key(for immobiliser). Where are you from? I'm in Western Sydney.

Hi Richo,
I'm down in Burnie Tas, I get up to Sydney reasonably often so I might give you a shout next time I'm there and check out your build. There is another guy Tony in Melbourne building a sonic he got his kit same time as me. I'v got all that stuff I'm just not sure how I'm going to handle the ABS traction control and safety systems. No one has said they can tun anything off yet although traction control has it's own switch.

If you are going for road rego you should speak to a certifying engineer. Better to find out what you can and can't do before you get too far and waste lots of cash and time. I am pretty sure you can't use ABS or ESP systems on kit cars. Unless you can properly test it and prove it works.

I also need to fit the turbo after cooler in there somewhere.

I'm just not sure how to turn all the safety stuff off. For instance if you are in my other XR5 and start moving without the bonnet catch latched you get alarms and lights flashing. I don't know yet if you can totally leave all the ABS and that out and it will run on full power. My guess is that in the wiring harness they do for the other cars they have included some bits that trick it into thinking all that stuff is ok. One guy told me no one can get into these things and turn things off like you can in a commodore and some others. So I think I need to work my way through the system putting in loops etc to make sure everything is happy.

Painted the frame no easy task with so many bars. Not because I'm totally finished mods but because I'm too close to the ocean and frame keeps getting rusty. Tried to sand it but gave up and sandblasted frame with a small sand blaster from supercheap auto. It made the biggest mess in my workshop but I blew it all out with compressor.

Put it the sump on properly this week. Got it welded by local engineering company. Tapped 13 x 6 mm holes inside to refit baffles and had them add a small tank on side to keep the capacity about the same.
