Inspired by GX160part’s 195bhp rocket I wander if there is there a track somewhere that we could all get to for a track day next year, so we can have several rockets/Sonics on track at the same time? RTR/MEV could also turn up with the Atomic and trike. I can imagine loads of good photo opportunities, and free advice being offered.
I would love to use my local track day expert Ed Moore of motorsport-events (http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/). He does great days on airfields here in Wiltshire. I love them as an airfield presents nothing to hit, just acres of wide open grass land. I guess the only problem is it’s only local to me.
Anybody fancy a track day in Wiltshire next year – my spare room is free, first come, first served, or are there any suggestions of a track that is good and easy for everyone to get to?
Cheers

Little more detail please what can I expect ? ie Open pit lane ? Start/Finish Times ? Min quantity block booking discounts ? Half/All Day ? What's the Circuit your suggesting ? etc etc
Sorry for all the questions

No problem Nigel, all good questions
A good place to start is the web page - www.motorsport-events.co.uk/, that will answer most of the detail but I guess you also want some independent thoughts from me.
It’s all run very professionally by a chap called Ed Moore. He is a formula ford racing driver who has won over 50 FF races. I am impressed by the way he runs it. All very friendly but at the same time quite strict.
The day normally starts with sign in at 9:00, sound check (100dba) and a drivers briefing. The there are 3 sighting laps and then three sessions with a limit on the numbers of cars until he thinks we are all safe. After that (about 11:00) its an open pit lane until about 16:30 or 17:00ish.
I have been to two days at Colerne air field, but he does other venues as well. Colerne is a two mile clockwise circuit with an excellent mix of fast and tight corners and two long straights. Despite being based on an air field you don’t get the feeling of just bombing up and down a run way, he uses three run ways and other roads to get a really good track set up. There is nothing to hit, so for novices like me I feel brave enough to give it my all knowing the biggest thing I can hit (other than another car) is a traffic cone.
Ed provides some porta loos and a ‘roach coach’ burger van as well as helmet hire and tuition at extra cost. The two days I have done have been supported by a full grid every time with a good range of cars, every thing from a Porsche GT3 to a mini, but most stuff has been well sorted kits of one sort or another.
There is strictly no overtaking in the corners and no track timing allowed, although I have monitored my progress by timing my laps on a camera after the event. Three black flags for misbehaviour and you are out, and if you spin you need to pit and take a breath before rejoining the circuit.
He has flag marshals around the circuit to wave blue, yellow, red or even black flags depending on how you drive.
It’s £99, but I think it’s great value. Colerne isn’t far from the M4, and it’s a venue that’s excellent for those with a fear of Armco. If we decide to do it next year , I can give him a ring and see if we can get a block booking discount.
Sorry for war and piece

War and Piece part 2
Sounds good, I especially like the fact that its open plan with good runoff’s and a lack of Armco. Although I do like the aesthetic look of a track set deep in the woods for those of us with minimal experience there best left for another day..
My only concern is location, Colerne is quite a southerly venue and I just wonder if a similar venue exists in a more central location say around the Birmingham / Coventry area, a more central location would I hope ensure maxim participation.
I have been looking at a small sprint track near Litchfield (one car at a time), but feel that if we can get enough interest then a proper circuit would be much more enjoyable.
Having talked with Stuart. both MEV and RTR are prepared to support such an event, both financially and with there participation. Ian/Adam from CKC have also requested that they be notified as they to would very much like to participate in any arranged ‘MOG Track Day Events’.
So that’s 6 plus you and me that 8 for definite !
Realistically its to late to arrange for this year however some time in the first half of next year say after the Stoneleigh show and before Newark ? I doubt we would be able to get enough MEV owners to be able to cover the cost of a circuit for the day therefore we may need to consider teaming up with another organisation or car club.
I wonder if you could contact Ed Moore and see if he could suggest a venue, or even be prepared to help organise an event for us ? Try and get an idea of what it would cost, and thus give us an idea of the numbers of participants we will need.
Let me know what you think Matt (looks as though you and me are going to end up being the organisers).

I don't what to loose sight of this thread as I think for next year it would be a very good opportunity to combine a Track Day and Official MEV Group get together.
So let's make it work guys. ;D
