Hello my name is Brandon and I am from the United States. I live in Houston, Texas which is known for birthing backwoods people of power. I am new to this forum and I have spent many nights reading up on the M.E.V. Rocket. I decided to join so I could ask some questions later. The only question I have currently is this the correct e-mail for M.E.V info@mevltd.co.uk Thank you in advance. Brandon

I have never welded a day in my life but I do know my way around a shop. Riveting, cutting floor pans, and moving a spanner are all with in my means. Will I be able to accomplish this project car or have I missed something in my research?

ahh pretty much like myself! upto now (i'm 3/4 of the way through my build) i've not needed to weld a thing! you might need access to a lathe (or local engineering shop/firm) to produce some spacers and bits - other than that its pretty straight forward! You never know unless you take the plunge and buy a kit... I did and I haven't looked back Cheers, Ol

Yes mightylad I browsed your posts with interest. Do you know if there are differences between the MkI/MKII Foci from Us to Euro spec (aside from the metric)?

Brandon,
ive not needed to weld anything just yet, and i was a novice to it all aswell.
Its a great kit to build and the Moggers on the site are quick to help with any questions/issues you might have.
ive had to make up some brakets etc out of steel angle etc but nothing too challenging just yet.
Have Fun Ade

Hmm not quite sure about that? i can't imagine Mr Ford straying too far from a single design of Focii... can anyone else shed some light on this?? Cheers, Ol

There is a brilliant article by James May in this months Top Gear about sizes between nuts and bolts that I had in mind when thinking that. I already know that the Us Focus will be left hand drive so my mounting points will be different. That also means I will be sitting on the fuel tank? Don't like that very much. All these examples are just a difference of bolting it one side of another but there could be things that need to be modified to make for these changes later down the line. Is the Rocket ambidextrous so that none of this really matters?

When the Rocket was made by MEV, they where able to make me a LHD. Just make sure they put the brake/clutch pedal brackets further over to the left.

I have no real familiarity w/ Ford cars and Ford engine/trans. Wiki isn't really much of a help on the subject either. There seams to be some mixed confusion what a Zetec or a Duratec is (making my brain hurt). What are some clear points to look for on a Focus donner car that i am getting a 1.6/1.8/or what i would like to find a /2.0. The IB5 gearbox does that only mate up to the 1.6 and 1.8? The MT75 is the gearbox that wont fit easily but is the one usually attached to the 2.0 right? How will i be able to tell the two apart. I imagine any used car I can get for 1to2k will be covered in grease so will there be other ques to look for (ei gear levers, linkage, what not)

Oh yeah we also don't have cars like the Mondeo over here in the states and I see plenty of builders taking the gear selector. LOL will I need to find a breakers yard's number that is willing to ship?

Holy cow I did some serious looking and I found that there is a SVT focus 2002 with a 6spt trans. Does anyone have any experience in knowing whether this engine/trans package will fit into the Rocket? First hand would be helpful, maybe send me a private message? The whole car looks rather pricey for a doner but I might have some luck locating a wrecked one in a scrap yard.

Haha, drive up to Dallas and I will show you mine. It's got a 2002 SVT drivetrain in it now. The car is done, too. Check out my website in the sig.
