Rick - are you not getting any bodywork from Exomotive? If not, why ? Yes, I have Yellow bodywork coming someday, but the Las Vegas Porsche club at Spring Mountain Motorsport Ranch wanted fenders before I could run with them. One of the nicest tracks within 200 miles. Not sure when I will get my fiberglass (Chassis 55, no projected ship date yet) so had to find a solution! Fender are nice, amazing how many rocks hit the fenders now and not my face. Much nicer for highway trips to! Maybe the pavement in Vegas ages bad compared to other areas that are cooler or get rain to clean the tracks?

Sorry to the folks on the east coast, went for a short road trip Saturday(70+ degrees)! Not sure how many people gave us the thumbs up or wrenched their necks looking. Pulled off to the side of the highway and took a few pictures. First picture I found a jet plane in the sky. Anyone else besides Steadfast in the US using the Exocet for Highway travel?

Appreciate the sympathy... It's below zero here right now, and the ten day forecast has us maybe touching freezing one afternoon - winter just won't let go. I'm starting to get really restless and tired of the weather and I'm sure there are others in the same boat. I really want to get out in the garage!

Rick - where does the '2nd' front fender stay bolt up to? I see the one has a face flange that bolts up where the dust shield originally bolted to the front knuckle, but where does the stay with the small flange bolt up? Same question on the rear ... one I see bolts to the (unused) ABS boss, but what about the other? I'm assuming the stays are from Exomotive .. can you confirm this?
All that said, I'm liking the look of your fenders more than those that come from Exomotive ... there might be a set of Exo fenders 'for sale' once I get my bodywork!

On the front and the rear, the second stay bolts to the top caliper bolt. Yes, these come from Exomotive. Next time the car is apart I will try for a better picture.

Thank you, sir! BTW, once I get my frame (soon, I'm promised) and assy. is at least as complete as yours, I will also be a highway user. The more I see your fenders, the more I like them. Depending on timing of when my bodywork is available vs. when my other assy. is complete, I may go the same route that you did on those!

Ok, I already know about them. They never have 225/45/15s so that's why I asked.

Thanks to Blaine at White Rice Photography for the photos
Someone claims that I may have hit a cone, it has not been proved yet! My son again drives better than me, car does sit much flatter with the larger front sway bar. Rear bar still unhooked. But, on the second run, the rear end went pow! Guess the donors many years of autocrossing made it tired. Still Rick II's run in the cold morning put him in the top 20 overall... Did not get to run in the afternoon in the warm sunshine... It is only a 1.6, but it is suppose to be 40 pounds light?
The Exocet frame it a little tighter than a stock Miata for the PPF, does not swing very far to the right to remove the differential.
Let the shopping and scrounging begin!

FWIW I've got a driveshaft if you need one.

So, as a fellow 1.6 rear end runner at this point, if I later decide to put a 1.8 rear end in I need the internal gear set (i.e. differential carrier / gears), the aluminum housing, input driveshaft, and output half shafts (w/CV joints)? Do I also need different knuckles / bearings / etc., or are the splines the same (on the outside of the half shafts) between a 1.6 and 1.8 car? For reference, my donor is a 1991 if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!

Knuckles and everything are the same, you need the carrier and gears (everything including the aluminum housing), the driveshaft and hardware, and the axle shafts. I just confirmed in Keith's book to make sure.

So, swapped in another 1.6 differential. Ran out of time for the local autocross event. Still do not want to add the extra 40 lbs that the 1.8 adds to the car just yet. My son was not able to attend, so the car was like 8th fastest with me driving plus I hit a cone. Daughter was in the thirties, she still has a hard time trusting the car as you can push it so much more than a full bodied car ( only her second time driving it.) We had over 130 entries so I do not feel to bad. I think I was only beat by some very talented drivers in very well prepared all wheel drive cars and a go kart. Very open course, so the little NA 1.6 worked very hard.
No matter where you park, get ready to answer questions and draw a crowd and wave a lot when driving.
Just parked in the paddock,
A trip to work
A morning at cars and coffee. I had to leave the car by itself, got tired of explaining it:) It sure had a lot of pictures taken. Hoping to see fiberglass soon!
