Hi,
I’m expecting my sonic kit to be ready for collection by the end of June. It was ordered at the beginning of May just after the stoneleigh show. I had been thinking about it for almost a year and went to MEV last November to see Stuart's Sonic.
I guess I should have posted here before now. It has been great to see the work of other members and their builds and I hope that I will be able to contribute as much as we have gained from reading the posts.
I’m going to be building it with my brother although the challenge is that we live 500 miles apart. To divide the tasks I’m responsible for preparing all the engine, drivetrain , electrics and Instrumentation. My brother will be assembling all the bodywork and suspension components to a rolling chassis. At some stage we will have to get together to assemble the engine into the body. This will be before the side panels (and suspension) get fixed.
Most of the build work will be done in Arbroath.
I should be able collect the donor in the next week. It’s a 2001 1.8 focus with 56k miles. I had been tempted by a couple of ST170 donors but we have decided to keep as simple as possible and follow the advice of Stuart at MEV and Nigel. ( who I meet at Stoneleigh this year)
Where we are deviating from the standard is that the fuel tank and battery will be in the front.
After much deliberation it’s going to be a green and white colour scheme with white wheels. I really liked the blue and white but I that’s been done already.
I’ll start a thread in the sonic7 section when I get the donor and start to take it apart. If anyone has timesaving advice on how to go about striping the donor of the necessary parts then I will be grateful.
That’s all folks
