Hi i am a new member based in Halifax (west Yorkshire) and have just paid deposit for rocket.I am looking forward to the challenge of building one of these superb machines. Should get delivery end of August! so plenty of time to get all the other bits and pieces sorted (in theory anyway) As i am uncertain of which engine to go for i am looking for any advice i can get. i have seen brand new 2.0 Zetec on eBay for £690 and am considering going down the new option as opposed to donor car Does any one have any comments with regards to the 2.0 unit (it is advertised as 145hp option)
regards Simon

evenin' simon, welcome aboard ;D buying a new engine for that price makes a lot of sense... but you will need an ECU and some other bits to run it. I you bought a 2.0l donor car with a knacked engine you could scrounge most the bits off of that. however you would need to source an IB5 gearbox as these were not fitted on 2.0l focus. if youve got space to strip a donor car it will save a lot of money. depends how keen you are on wire brushing and painting i suppose. Thanks Will looking on eBay it appears that getting hold of gearbox should not be too much of a problem. Do you know if the 6speed from the st170 fits OK. As there are a couple listed for not much money. From my understanding (albeit very limited at the moment) the IVA will allow fitting of one second hand part to get it on a new plate. I am considering the new route as it does not appear that i actually need much from the donor car. and would prefer a new registration (will help with resale value if the time comes i ever want to sell)

Please excuse any mistakes as i am a virgin as far this forum thing goes Today i have received my new engine Its a 2.0 Zetec supposedly 145Hp (although i have no idea if it is or how you can prove it but the guy seemed very friendly and genuine enough) I wont put the name of the company as i am unsure of whats OK and what isn't. Any how on receiving the engine i immediately set about trying to decide how to fill my time between now and the end of august when the chassis will be ready. As its a new engine it seems logical to leave it alone for now! well any normal person would however not being fully normal i have decided that i shall strip it and get it fully lightened and balanced. once that is done i will replace the mains and big end bolts (according to the web) this seems the only real weakness with the engine. The next stage i am a little uncertain which way to go and if any one has any suggestions they would be gratefully received. I intend to go for an after market ECU emerald or omex or other the common consensus seems to combine this with new throttle bodies which apparently lifts the power nicely combined with nice fast road cams should have it somewhere around the 170- 180HP if any one has any personal experience on this matter i would love to hear about it. One last question at this point is the gearbox it seems there are a multitude of options i was looking at an IB5 FRP which has the shot peened 1st and 2nd gear with an LSD, has any one fitted this or is it better to to go with the standard 1.6/1.8 unit. I can only assume given the final weight of the car that it doesn't really need any thing special but i am guessing an LSD is probably highly worth while as things progress i will post more regards Simonr
