Hi All,
Can anyone please advise on the correct method for securing the front wings to the two support brackets on the TR1ke? I'm sure that the masking tape that's been used to secure mine can't be right (even though it evidently passed the PDI at the RTR workshop).
They both started rattling badly on a run out today as, unbeknown to me, the tape finally gave up the ghost/tore/perrished, then the nearside one was flipped up by a bump to an angle of about 45°, so that the front and rear corners of the inside edge became wedged on the tyre...
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi, I don't think tape will cut it particularly in some rain, I used Sikaflex windscreen glue it's bloody brilliant and has a tiny bit of give help the gell-coat not crack. Andy

I have mine secured with PU adhesive (tiger seal)
I ran a bead along the top edge of the wing stays, then without the wheel on slide the guard onto the the stay. Then put the wheel on and position the guard so they look right. After a day or so I removed the wheels and added extra adhesive either side of the stays.

Thanks for the info, guys...I've just ordered some Silkaflex!
By the way, Windscreens/wind deflectors...what are your thoughts?

For me, I fitted my own design, they were shit and caused more of a buffeting affect than having nothing fitted. The ones that I bought from RTR were also meant to be good, but I never fitted them. Kevin did indeed fit huge screens, they did the job I understand, they were as tall as a double decker bus Kevin's idea for testing the height needed are still the best, unless you can afford a spell at the Mira wind facility, he is the man to advise as to what you need.

As nick said, I have a rather large one It finishes 6in above the bonnet, it works well on long motorway runs but it does look crap. This year I plan to fix the screens to old sat nav sucker mounts so they can be quickly removed from the bonnet.

Do really Kevin :-) I haven't bothered with a screen yet as its fine with my lid on and some ear plugs, it's something you can play with after it's all up and running. Andy

I agree, it's the bolt-upright nature which is the problem, although it is what Ariel do on the Atom as well! I was wondering if any of the bike screens would have the right curve to fit on top of the 'instrument binnacle', to create a more aerodynamic solution?

I think bolt upright is the only thing that works. My screen is about 6 inches high from the binnacle but its only on there for the winter. I will be leaving it in the garage for summer driving.

Hi Paul,
Good to hear from you...hope all's well with your orange monster! Incidentally, what pressure do you run your front tyres at?

Yeah I also considered fitting a couple of Double Bubble screens but Paul at RTR had made a point that the Acrylic screens they do make an abrupt channel of air over your head. And that using anything smooth would effectively force air straight into your face. In the end I opted for no screens and anything over 40MPH to wear a lid with. It's a safety thing at that speed and also a bit of comfort with wind deflection. I think Kevin always drives with his lid on. But if you have seen how he drives you will understand why :-)

Hmmm...not quite sure why adding a further deflector to what's already there would send air into the driver's face. But, hey, I'm not privy to the results of RTR's extensive wind tunnel testing research!!
Being quite tall, I think maybe I should also look at getting lower in the vehicle (my head is above the height of the roll bar!). My TR1ke is currently fitted with comfortable, but quite thick, Cobra seats. Switching to a thin, GRP alternative would get me more down behind the existing fairing, and save some weight, too!
What sort of seats have you got?

Thanks for the info, guys...I've just ordered some Silkaflex! By the way, Windscreens/wind deflectors...what are your thoughts? Out of interest I keep hearing about Sikaflex and when I look on ebay there are lots of different of different types with different code numbers. E.g. Sikaflex 295. I was planning on using this to fix my floor in conjunction with rivets but I don't know which grade to buy. Can anybody tell me please.
Thanks
Matt

The one I bought today, Matt, was Sikaflex EBT (black) which, according to the blurb on the container, seems to do everything required for secure mudguard fixing. It was £8.35 from ScrewFix, although is probably available cheaper online...
