The big day.....
started the engine last night. Seems to be a few of us doing that over the past few weeks and I agree it's a great feeling. Proves the engine on a pallet was not seized, the electrics are good and did not fry the ECU... All the worries go with one loud bark from the engine. And boy is mine loud! The exhaust is at the welder so I ran it up without even a manifold! Only ran it for a few 20 second sessions. Need to connect dash to monitor oil p and temperatures, and get the exhaust on.
I keep meaning to do the build write up and post some pics. Will be abroad for a while so the write-up can be my Sonic activity.
As my son said last night. We need to get some wheels on it and have a drive. BTW we took a rolling chassis approach to build so we could do a lot of the setup and internals without the bodywork permanently fixed in place. Side panels have been on and off a few times to check clearances but not cut any of the holes yet. Longer time for the whole build but works better for us... Maybe a bit paranoid about cooling runs, leaks, over heating but would rather be certain before riveting the panels on!
The build is not standard. Engine and 6 speed box gives a different setup for gear cables and wiring. I’ve also taken a different route with the coolant hoses and have no high points that don’t bleed to the expansion tank. Very flat runs apart from water pump but that has a bleed at top point. Fuel tank up front, radiator right up front. Battery in front of passengers feet. Fuel filler under front bonnet so will need to hinge the cover. Writing this I clearly have a problem! Why am I making everything different? Will be interesting to see what difference it makes to the weight distribution. Probably moved about 40kg to the front.
Realistically the car will not be on the road this summer. I’d need to find too much time to finish things properly and then there is the wait for IVA. Will keep the updates flowing. Great reading the forum and really does makes things much easier. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
