Hi all - I thought I'd register and say hello rather than lurking in the background.
I am presently the owner of a Renault (Alpine) GTA v6 but not for much longer.
Building a kitcar is something I have wanted to do ever since I became interested in cars - probably 30 or so years ago. I have never done one but decided a while back that my next car will be a kit.
So, the Alpine is up for sale and the money will be used towards a kit. At last it is really going to happen!
My mechanical skills are "fair to ok". I have done a nut'n'bolt rebuild of a 'bike and have refurb'd a couple of car engine top ends, replaced head gaskets etc... A kit will be quite challenging for me - and that is something I look forward to!
I want to build something (relatively) simple and low cost for my first project so I have been looking for a while at a few of the Lotus 7 replica kits. I'm quite amazed how much difference there is between the kits considering the end result is always going to be some variation on the same basic shape.
I'd not heard of MEV until going to Stoneleigh and was really taken with the Rocket and Sonic 7. It's really good to know that there are alternatives to the "7" type cars (not that I don't like them - I do, but there are a lot of them about).
I am planning on going to Newark in a few weeks time and making a decision then - but at the moment the Rocket is top of my list. There's a good chance, once the GTA is sold, that I will be ordering a Rocket kit.
Looking forward to it..............
Simon.
BTW....If anyone is interested in the Alpine.........
