What kind of security can be put on these?
At £1500 it wouldn't bother me too much, but with the prices I'm looking at now I wouldn't want it to get stolen or damaged. Would it be safe to leave them in the road overnight? I've seen weird key things which give some security, but is there anything to stop somebody from just shorting the wires to get it going?

Yes, I have had these concerns as well. My approach will be to forget any flashy form of electrical security (a set of jump leads would get them past that anyway) and go for motorcycle style disc locks. I have also looked at installing a steering lock - simple to achieve but would be another barrier to someone just driving off in it. I have also thought about whether the more complex controllers might offer some form of security? ? Let us know if you come up with anything else!

I must admit that I know very little about things that have less than four wheels. I've just googled motorcycle disc locks and they look good.
The other thing I have been thinking about is a removable battery tray, but I don't know whether that would be possible. How is the battery tray attached to the vehicle? Is it welded at the edges? Is it made of angle iron? Is it possible to make the battery tray removable without adversely affecting the chassis? If I could make the battery tray removable then I could wheel my batteries into the garage at night to charge them, and then I also know that nobody will drive of with the trike.

Not a "true" security feature but certainly works well as a notifier. www.wighillparkguns.co.uk/products/products_detail.asp?prod=2109There are many shops doing these so this one is a representative of the product, no preference to this supplier. You can fit these on private property only so if you leave it "in the road" then these will not help. I have a few of these placed around my place with a notice on the gate saying "Frag mines protect these premises. " One scroat set one off and the word soon got around the criminal fraternity that some nutter had hand grenades as booby traps.... No trouble since,

One simple solution is to fit a on off tap to the fuel line hidden in an obscure place that's hard to find.
