Although I am 3 days ahead of you (collected my kit on Friday) I have doubt that your build will be quicker than mine!

If this is Barney's car then I'm beginning to worry a little. Now we know why he wants a Rocket...

Point taken. I can't help it if I am somewhat predisposed to the weird and interesting: My current daily drive is either one of these or one of these I also have one of these awaiting restoration and the car I would really like to own is answers on a postcard if you know what it is. Are you beginning to see a theme here...

Panhard 24 methinks . Google did provide the model number I have to admit, but otherwise all my own work! French as idiosyncratic as ever.....shame they lost their way somewhat. Love the wiper arrangement - like the Renault Alpine . Martin

It has been a productive couple of days & I was going to post some photos of the past couple of weeks but my Broadband has gone crook and is taking too long to do anything. (Due to the sodden ground and our poor alumimium rich phone lines - so they say!)
1: I have unpacked both the track rod ends in the kit, to find that both are marked "R" and have the dogleg/offset in the same direction. I assume this is an error and needs RTR to change. Please confirm and also that as the end is mounted in front, the R should be on the near-side?
2: More of an observation really but the supplied front lower ball joints are too small. This is because I have gone for the Hi-Spec Cortina uprights (very smart). I'll need to speak with them about suitable joints.
3: I have fitted the Golf Mk3 radiator upside down, on a folded full-width bracket, essentially to put the outlets on the near-side, away from the steering column. There were two circular holes molded on the top of the side tanks which now sit upon two domed M8 nuts also allowing a little rake on the radiator. (1st & 2nd pictures). I plan to seal under the rad with some sticky foam.
The bracket also acts as an air deflector/barrier pushing air into the radiator. The top will be treated in a similar fashion using the plastic posts as the securing points. First however, I think I'll make the bottom bracket about 3cm lower, so that the top of the rad is below the bottom of the Master Cylinders.

OK so I went to fold another - lower - radiator mount and thought I'd try to make a homemade folder as described on several youtube clips. Thinking I was "only folding ally" I skimped on the thickness of the angle bar. Result? it bowed up when trying to bend a wide piece and I couldn't get sharp folds or even the shape wanted. So I was about to jump back in the car to fetch some more (thicker) steel when the wife brought me a coffee and homemade piece of cake. (She had noticed the air turning blue during the latest struggles and thought I might need some refreshment. Bless her!)
While sat on my toolbox/step reviewing the situation I had a "Eureka!" moment. The cost of the extra steel needed was more than buying a piece of 2"x1" box Aluminium off ebay! Doh!
Fitted this box section yesterday and I'm very happy with the result. It looks far better.
Cost of the box section was £7 + £2.60 p+p (50 x 25 x 3).
Thank goodness for the power of Coffee & Rum Chocolate Cake!

Hi Barney Looks good. I think I have same rad as you and when you said you had mounted it upside down I was looking for the little mounting posts in your pic which would now be at the top of rad but can't see them. We're they there originally or did it come without them?.

They are there. You can just see half of the one above the inlet. It's tucked behind the plate - but you can just see it. Rather sore at present I have played a full game of rugby this afternoon - at 54 yrs old its not recommended.

Ah yes got it, cheers. How do you find the fit of this rad? I only ask cos I am close to ditching mine and getting a smaller one cos the top nearside corner of tad sticks out beyond the side panel which will look really ugly Rugby!!! Bloody lethal, it should banned!
