the sound of sound chips striking the underbody was disconcerting, Wifey would get in once and never again! I was disconcerted at the noise of chips hitting the bottom of mine, but not as much as when she said it was "metal" and I looked for what was falling off

Actually, would you believe I have a tin of that in the garage already, the daily driver was suffering from rust. Good call, horrible goop if I remember correctly, but at 20% the cost of the plastidip a bargain.

Just make sure you keep in in the airing cupboard for a week before use, nice and thin then. Easier to use, I would take the hit from the wife and pop it in the oven for 20 mins too.. lol

I would have put it on ages ago but was a bit weary of covering all the nuts/bolts that are under there. Is it a pain to remove/scrape off if I need to remove something?.

I would have put it on ages ago but was a bit weary of covering all the nuts/bolts that are under there. Is it a pain to remove/scrape off if I need to remove something?. I took the old stuff off with a Dremel grinding disc (hadn't discovered the wonders of the angle grinder yet) it took me 7 hours. Only after I marvelled that the NCT (MOT) guy had sensed such a tiny (<1 sq cm) rust-hole under so much gick, did I realise which side 'nearside' was. I'd like to think I've come along a bit since then. NCT guy wasn't a Jedi, there was a MUCH bigger bit of sill rusted through on the correct side, my Puma is now approx 0.1% Hiace.

Video of my poor attempt to Vinyl-wrap the floor. I'll get away with it as the scruffiest bits will be under things. Got some pretty sweet blisters on my fingertips doing this without gloves or a squeegee but honestly it would've been much worse if I'd tried. Plan to wrap the central tunnel and instrument column in a nice brushed aluminium vinyl look like a non-starter, might try and just 'brush' it instead.

As I found out the hard way, don't attempt to vinyl wrap large items by yourself. You need at least one other person to hold the wrap up of the item while you smooth it out with the heat gun.

Yeah, the battery ran out before the really bad bit, but it's a mad dog's breakfast where the fuel tank will be (phew!), once it bunched up there was no putting right, I must've pulled it up and heated it two dozen times. Looks like I'll be going back to good ol' paint. My donor is Magnum grey, so I'm going to buy some, tidy up some scruffy panels by way of practice, sell what is saleable, and by the end of it, hopefully be ready to do my own GRP panels. Hopefully the bonnet, sides etc will cover most of the cost of the paint.

GoodiesI've had a very nice month on Ebay, and overall, a bit of a result. My credit card is utterly destroyed, but at the prices I got them for, it was an 'investment'. [Seller's pictures for the moment]ECUFirst up, I scored an old, but unused Omex 710 for £400. Sent it off to Omex to be checked and updated. I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed with their service; they tested it, sent me a base map for my ST170 (after enquiring about the details of my engine, injector flow rate etc), told me how to rewire the Omex 600 race-spec loom I bought to work with the 710, and even threw in the additional wires I'd need to drive my VCT. All this and they charged me for 15 minutes work. Insured postage back to me, all in, £35 inc VAT. Amazing. Yes, you could buy a Megasquirt for less, but who are you going to call when you can't get it going? LoomAfter a lot of misses, and a few weeks of searches, I scored huge on the wiring front, I got a race-spec Omex 600 wiring loom from a failed Vauxhall-based project, with connectors, relays etc for £80. With the aforementioned Omex help, I'll have £1400 worth of engine management for a third of that. Throttle BodiesGot a full set of GSXR1000 throttle bodies, with injectors, wiring harness, TPS for £79 Going to need to space it myself, but a user on here was kind enough to send me a full guide with pictures. The hardest part I think will be waiting until after my IVA to install them and hear that noise.. Speaking of noise When I first pressed the horn on my Puma I was so embarrassed by the noddy-noise I don't think I used it until I got a proper new horn (Focus). Not sure if these'll make it to the Rocket, but I'm tempted, imagine the surprise as a 500kg go-kart honks like a Big Rig. Oh yeah, and the scrappie provided me with a Focus 1.6 rad and MK1 Mondeo shifter (which I'm unconvinced of).

Plan to wrap the central tunnel and instrument column in a nice brushed aluminium vinyl look like a non-starter, might try and just brush it instead I can see the problem, from watching the video you clearly just went way too fast When my kit arrived a lot of the aluminium was damaged, who would put an exhaust inside a tunnel for f*#¥ks sake, then to cap it off put all of that against the chassis. Perhaps they were hoping the chassis rub would counteract the outward dent from the exhaust. I worked on the damage with wet and dry getting finer until is ended up as a brushed finish, will hit it with a pad later to get the final result. it looks quite good, better than raw aluminium. I also brush parts before I anodise again it looks way better, hides any scriber marks a treat.

RadiatorMy little radiator farm, from left to right, Puma 1.7, Focus ST170 and the teeny bitsy one on the end is the Focus 1.6. Which, under a half-attached rubber grommet had a smashed lug, grrr. €40 from the scrappy. I was going to mount it upside down, but then I remembered the drain plug, so I set about butchering the pretty sorry Puma rad instead. Cut, sort of shaped and glued on. Shaved down the rubber grommets from the Puma to allow a little lug to poke out but still provide anti-vibration protection. All lined up! aaand I'll almost certainly have to move it forward, no room for pipework or pedal-box masters.

Though there are plenty of people using it quite happily. Which, under a half-attached rubber grommet had a smashed lug, grrr. €40 from the scrappy. Off she goesFinally got the chassis out the door to the Powdercoaters today.. It did sort of feel like leaving a child off to school on the first day, including a leave-their-bag-behind-moment; I forgot to leave any of the suspension arms, had to return later with 8 more bits. So, it's be blasted, and given two coats plus a lacquer. I've asked for RAL5002 with silver metallic effect, which is called 'aquamarine blue' but is the closest colour I could get to Ford RS/Imperial Blue. It's not going to be cheap at €520 - €570, so I hope it looks the part. In a week I'll know.
