Just doing a few final jobs to get the MEVSTER ready for the IVA test. These include rear number plate lights
Extended side repeaters to ensure they can be seen from the rear at 5 degrees to the side of the car. This is to ensure the rear wing does not obstruct view.
I also fitted 2 cab heaters, found on ebay for £9 inc post.

These are 150w each and are wired to the blue MX5 heater wire which has a 30 amp fuse (300w@12v=25a)
I modified the MX5 heater switch by cutting off the excess wires. This now rotates 3 clicks to operate which is not perfect but it is a 30 amp rated switch that you already have and does not require a relay. The screen will now demist/defrost. It is possible to use the MX5 heater with mods but I found this an easy and cheap solution.
The last job is to cap the nuts and use edge trim of the wishbones. The edge of the spring base plates on the shock absorber will need covering too.
Normally the wings would need trim too but in this case I rounded the edges before painting them.
It is advisable to use PU adhesive to secure caps to nuts and edge trim as the inspector may wish to check they are permanent and not just for show for the test. I used PU on the ends of the edge trim, not all along as it tends to slip off before the PU is cured if you run a full bead.
The track rod ends are covered too. This will mean a knife will be required for tracking adjustments. A better solution would be to use the grommet sleeves that electricians use for armoured cable junctions to box's. These can then slide back and the track rod end screwed back on and adjusted. Nut caps need fitted to the track rod nut and bottom ball joints nuts in the picture.
So that just about it. I will now check items like horn, windscreen washers, back lighting to the dash and that the fog only comes on when the headlights are on. Some cars have them wired to the side lights which is not acceptable.
This donor did not have a fog light as it was an imported Eunos.
I used the door contact wire which runs to the rear of the car connected to an ebay switch.

The fog switch does need to light up when it is on and have the correct identification label on it.
On test day I will take lots of bits of rubber, cable ties, P clips, a battery screwdriver and self tap screws, gaffer tape, spare bulbs, fuses, edge trim, PU adhesive and any odds and sods that may be useful if the inspector finds anything that has not got a 2.5mm radius on it. I will drive to the test to give the brakes chance to bed in and clean up. This will also give the engine a good blast as it has sat for a while and may need to be hot to pass the emission test. I will guess at the headlight aim as they usually let you move them during the test.
Next I will fill in the form IVA1. I will apply for an AM test in case there is any issues that I may be able to sort at lunch time and ask for a quick check to pass without returning.
