Well I went and bought the wrong gearbox. Saw it advertised on eBay as a brand new gearbox for a Focus c-max and through my inability to understand the information in front of me on the Ford Microcat cd, I purchased it thinking that as it was IB5 it would fit. Sadly I was wrong.
So now I have a "brand new" (I've been told it is Ford recon as it has been painted but has Ford stickers on) gearbox for a c-max or a late Focus. Been to see a local transmission specialist today and he has said that he can fit all of my internals into the correct casing to fit my engine. Plus fitting all new seals everywhere but leave everything else as it unless it turns out to be a heap of crap inside obviously. So this will set me back another £275 on top of the cmax box which makes my total gearbox cost a lot more than I was originally quoted for a recon.
I really want to get the engine and gearbox in and this guy is local 30 years in business etc etc. My only concern is that regarding the ratios of the internals. Looking at the microcat properly it would appear that the gearbox is from a 1.6 petrol. I want to fit it to my new 2.0 Zetec engine and I don't really know if the gearing is going to be higher, lower, all over the place or what ?
Anybody out there that knows a lot about gearboxes and ratios able to offer any advice ? The guy today has said that if I can come up with some ratios I would like he is more than likely able to accommodate it from parts he has.
The other option is to stick it back on ebay and get a full recon box. But it's a heavy item so will need to be palletised and then ebay and paypal fees etc etc.
