According to the MEVX5 Price list page:-
'Or you can bring your MK1 MX5 to us and we will supply the kit, fit it and paint the car. The cost is only £5000 plus VAT.'
If someone wanted to take you up on this, but wanted a superlight coupe - ie, the spaceframe, with the MX5 windscreen frame welded on, wipers fitted and the side doors retaining the glass, how much extra would you charge, considering the quite substantial extra work required? And would it include all IVA and registration work?
thanks.

And if you could also price up a superlight chassis with a coupe body, parts only.

And if you could also price up a superlight chassis with a coupe body, parts only. The problem is the coupe body uses the existing mx5 windscreen frame, the superlight chassis has no windscreen frame. This means to make a superlight coupe you have some minor difficulties to sort out such as ;- lining up the windscreen frame and welding it in place to the superlight chassis, mounting the wipers so they work properly, you'd probably want the washers too, and you'd prbably have to think about trying to sort out a heater matrix or something to de-mist. It really does make life a lot more complicated doing a closed top kit car, that's why I ask this question! I don't think it's a good project for a beginner to attempt!

I'm quite capable of doing it myself, just interested in the cost for the parts as I have the Mx5 here already.

I am pretty confident about building a MEVX5 Superlight or Exocet, not really interested in a standard MEVX5 as it defeats the point a bit.. .But I'm keen on something a little more practical, something I can drive in the winter - but I think it would be significantly harder to build car.
Has anyone actually tried to do a superlight coupe that we know of?

Nope, mooted it at the time and thoughts are there wouldn't be too many issues but wasn't something Stiggy was.looking to offer as a turn key. It would have to be more of a home build.
It ticks all the boxes for me, practical, lightweight and handles really well. It's a cut price g40r really.

As we have now sold the project there is no need for us to have a demo car, very sad to see this go though. I did a lot of miles in this car. Enjoy it Mark!

Hi, My name is Mark and i am now the proud owner of the mevx5 project. The kit is still available with the same high quality due to keeping the same suppliers and the cost will be the same for the foreseeable future even though the cost of materials has gone up but hay-ho that's life! The website is now up and running and email problems sorted so please take a look. www.mevx5.co.ukThe contents are mainly from the mev site but it will be updated in the future if anyone has any mevx5 pics that i can use please let me know mevx5@yahoo.com I hope that we can make the mevx5 project a success as it is a smart, stylish and well designed kit by Stuart which deserves to to be seen and successful like his others. If you have a mevx5, want one or think you might! please feel free to get in-touch. Thanks, Mark
