It was a fantastic weekend, getting more and more confidence with the car the more I drive it. The setup with the V70a's have got SO much grip. Going though the left hander of Coppice at 100+ mph is an awesome feeling, hanging onto the steering wheel thinking you're going to get spat off the track

Any video's? Or race reports? Is four the largest grid to date? And how many will it grow to by seasons close? Still building house so my exocet project is still on hold - it will happen though....

Nice video Stewart, You stopped driving and and started racing after 8 minutes and it showed, given some clear track you got into a decent rythum and made some ground up. I know what 20 minutes on a trackday feels like with no pressure so full on racing must give you a real buzz ;D, Exco looks like its running well . Top Job Keep the videos coming ;D

Great video freak!
Is this your first season?
As you seem a very polite racer - especially compared to the mx5 drivers!
It was great to see your confidence grow and push harder as the race went on - you were clearly faster than most of the cars that passed you and i didn't see any mistakes unlike several of the mx5 drivers....
Does your car suffer understeer? As it didn't look very pointy or is that how exocets are? Is there must adjustability? Ride hieght? Camber? Castor? Brake balance?
How have you got on with tyre pressures. I found running road tyres on track the starting psi needs to be much lower than normal. Is this the same with the exocet?
Good luck with your next race - looking forward to more vids if possible ;D

Thanks Yes, first season, and only 3rd race. Confidence is coming along slowly. The mk1s do have 1 big advantage... A nice big metal body around them. They can happily bump and scrape, rub wings and bumpers all day long, we're a little more susceptible to a small touch as a clip to the wheel means a bent steering rack - like the last race at Anglesey, so for the time being I'll give them a little more room while getting used to the car and perfecting quick parts changes between races I did get a little understeer heading into Mansfield and the second to last right hander, but again, getting used to the car and tweaking the setup should help a lot with that. Much prefer a touch of understeer than oversteer for now! I think the pressures are 26 cold, 32 warm but we're running the Khumo v70a tyre so a Motorsport tyre rather than road

Thats surprising about the steering rack. Are they easy to change nd cheap? Still best not have a race ruined even if they are cheap.
Has mr blake given you advice on tyres?
In my caterham i would run 28 psi on the road with the fuel saving van tyres they made us use in the academy but when racing 18-19 cold getting to about 22 hot. Then with cr500's we ran 14 or 15 looking for 19 when hot. In vee 14 front 16 rear looking for 18 when hot. It can change corner to corner and you can really change how the car handles during a race too. Loads of gripat the start to when they get really hot 8 laps in you slow down or lower pressures so it slides a bit more in the start and then gets it all together for the last 5-6 lapsof th race. It only makes a few tenths difference but you will notice it in quali and depending on the weather you should adjust the pressures for when the session you want to set the fastest lap. It can also be a quick fix for under or oversteer - but not as effective as setting changes.
But anyway i'm sure someone will have different or better advice with more experience of mx5's or exocets and the type of tyres you are using.
Really hope to get to see you and exocets in person at racetrack his year.
David

This is the Anglesey vid: Got tagged at the end while avoiding the blue car (look familiar? The dive down the inside at cadwell into Mansfield then same car got black/White drive through) The whack bent the track rod. Like for like quite straight forward swap. 4 bolts for the brackets, 1 for the column and 1 on each side for the ends. It took us more time to replace the master cylinder 3 times! But yes, wheel to wheel racing is easier in the Mk1s as the first contact is the wing rather than directly onto the wheel/fg arch... Those fg arches don't bend as much as the mk1 metal ones
