What are the pro's and cons of each? Why do you prefer one over the other?
Is one easier/cheaper to tune than the other? Let me clarify - If I'm aiming for 175-200bhp which one will get there with less effort.
Thanks for your time and comments.
EDIT: I am referring to ford focus engine options that would be used as the doner car in my future Rocket build, sorry I did not clarify that.

Oops! Thank you mark, for pointing out that I didn't give nearly enough information! Original post has been modified. I intend to purchase a Rocket some time in the future, and I am considering the different engine options...

The 2.0 and the 1.8 are exactly the same dimensions, it's only internally that they are different. If you buy a 2.0 litre donor then yes there is a bit more work involved as it has a different gearbox, clutch and flywheel. but you will get the rear brake calipers from it.
If you are looking to buy a new engine, the 1.8 comes with a clutch and flywheel and will fit straight on the IB5 gearbox and costs about £650. It has roughly 115BHP.
The 2.0 also comes with a clutch and flywheel but this will not fit the IB5, you will need to buy a 1.8 clutch and flywheel. It cost's £750. It has roughly 135 BHP.
An IB5 gearbox is about £100 from a scrappy and another £100-150 to get it serviced this will fit both engines once they are fitted with the correct flywheel and clutch.
Once either engine is connected to an IB5 they are exactly the same dimensions. So there is no difference in fitting them.
To gain an extra 20 BHP costs a lot more than the £100 difference between the engines. And selling the 2.0 flywheel and clutch will easily make the money back to buy the 1.8 version.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the informative replies. As far as the doner car goes, if I go for the 2.0 aside from the gear box, clutch and flywheel are there any other components that the 1.8 focus would provide me that are not on the 2.0 (starter, cv joints, wiring?)

Not really, the only other thing I can think of is that the drive shafts may be different as the 2.0 will have an MTX75 gearbox instead of an IB5 so they may not be interchangeable with the IB5 but you can buy new IB5 drive shafts for £80 including postage from eBay.

I think the gear selector cables are different too

I thought it was just the ST170 that had the MTX75 gearbox and the standard 2.0 Focus had the IB5

Hi,
I believe the ST170 has a Getrag MT285 6-speed box, and the cables/shifter are different from the others.
