also some work done to the donor.. i wish i got a less complex model, the loom is outrageous, i would advise anyone looking for a donor to get a 3 door lx or what ever the base model is. you live and learn

Unfortunately I think the main wiring loom is standard throughout the range, It just depends on the optional extra the car has. I was surprised when I Stripped mine on how many of the plugs aren't connected to anything and That was a ghia model.

Good luck!
I see you've still got your spare/wheel tyre, that was one of my best earners on eBay, got £30 for that ...
Cheers Mark

Ned haha, tell me about it, heated seats, yaw computer, whats all that about. well i dont think ill be stripping it back now, im debating on getting a custom one made up, i dont want one of my electrical balls-ups to cause the car to run crappy or not at all. i wanted to do the majority of this build on my own, but i would be gutted if i messed it up. then fried something expensive. paul

Had a bit of a day on the donor today, been putting it off. But I took the entire electrics out, bloody help.. how much wire. Cut the exhaust off, think I bought the only focus from2003 with a pristine exhaust. Then took the fuel tank off and whipped out the fuel pump, took out the base mount from inside the tank too, debating in bonding it in the ally one and just fit like standard.. Listed a load of stuff on ebay and ordered a few more bits. A little more tomorrow I think. A month till they start welding.. can't wait

Got involved with one of the crap jobs I have been putting off for a while, stripped down the scabby looking rust covered rear calipers. Broke them right down then went to town on them with the drill and wire brush attachments. They are in the dishwasher now with a bottle of degreaser then a quick hose with brake cleaner and they can be put into plastics bags ready for spraying with heat paint next weekend. I'll pop some before and after pics up in a bit

Hi Paul, Making good progress. I also looked at the VF mounts before I found Vibra Technics. I would double check as at the time VF only made mounts for the Focus RS which are different to the Focus Zetec. Vibra Technics did not make the full set of mounts for the Zetec either, but as they are manufactured in the UK I vistied them. RTR then confirmed they would distribute them for the Rockets and Sonics and thus they were manufactured. Either way a performance mount makes a lot of difference.

the donor is stripped out now, the doors have been left on just to keep the water out, i dont want to scrap it until the chassis comes just incase i see any other parts i need off of it. i hope the mounts work as they are bought now, i did get them cheep like the budgie though. going to call in at rtr on friday when im driving back up north home, finalise what i think i want. still not 100% yet though

Hi!
I've been thinking about the cooling and the problems some have had with it. Just an idea as you're starting your build quite soon. When looking at all the builds, the coolant hoses are running next to the exhaust and cat. Since the exhausts are quite hot, they would heat up the hoses and the coolant running in them. So I'm wondering if setting up a second bulkhead in front of the normal bulkhead with the coolant hoses running in between the bulkheads and being routed to holes in the upper corners of the aft bulkhead. Combined with insulating the aft bulkhead that might take care of some heat issues.
Just an idea, someone that has actually built a Rocket can probably tell me why it's not a good one. Or maybe it isn't a problem.
Good luck with your build, I'm looking forward to follow it.
Regards /Tobias

dont think that the heat is to do with external sources but more about flows on high revs and pressures generated by the high flows

I now what u mean I have used the heat shield from the focus and got a pipe pulling cold air in and up by the bulkhead which has helped cool things down But what has really helped was the floor on the front under the rad I have been able to move the rad forward more As it was mounted close to the front bulkhead Ta andy
