Hi, ive been thinking about the colours for my rocket, The one that sealed the deal for me choosing the rocket had the gold chassis and black panels which i saw at the newark show, This was bought the same weekend i believe. Now i thought the colours made it look really classy and expensive but still modern and sporty. Im still finding it hard to decide finally though! Once its all painted it aint no cheap/easy fix to just change all the colours again! If i have the gold chassis i will have to pay extra for this colour so wondered if anyone knows how much it is to have it chromed instead? Does this require more upkeep? Just so hard to commit to the colours when theres so many builds looking awesome in all the different colours! Anyone else found this too? Wayne.

Hi Wayne,
There are a very few chrome powder coat systems on the market and their is one that stands out to be a far better in depth of chrome shine to any others, which is what I have on my Rocket. This specific system is a patented process owned by one company !! Once the chrome is applied, their are a further 2 layers of clear lacquer for protection which does scratch relatively easily (like any other coating) but the lacquer can be polished back, so I would say it is easier to scuff but easier to bring back to looking new. If you chip through into the chrome then their is really no substitute for repair as any touch-up will not end up being shiny (due to how the chrome chemistry works !!??), it will need to be re-sprayed in that area, unlike a normal powder coat which can be touched in and dressed to more or less being invisible repair.
As for cost, it will be 3 - 4 times as much as a normal system and this company who have the system do not generally like to take on this size of project (he was reluctant to do mine and Scott's chassis due to size but managed to pursued him!!). They are based on the east coast, so you will have to add transportation their and back to the costing.
The finish is stunning (I would say that !!) but logistically needs effort and in total will cost alot more than a normal system.
Hope that helps in your descisions,
Jon

The colour is a very personnel choice, don't worry about how many people have the same colours. There are several people that have the gold frame with the black GRP. I've gone for the Gunmetal grey frame with Black GRP, I know for a fact that there are loads of Rockets with type of colour scheme. Luckily living in Glasgow I think I have the only Rocket, in fact I think there are only 5 or 6 in Scotland so it will be unique what ever colour. The GRP colour can be changed at anytime either by a respray or the new craze of vinyl wrapping (which can look stunning), changing the frame colour however is a bit more complicated.
Just remember that if you ever decided to sell the car in the future, as with normal cars the colours you pick now because you want to be unique may not be to everyone's taste.

Mabbs, I've worked it out. This quote from you above - "As for cost, it will be 3 - 4 times as much as a normal system" Explains this quote from your build diary - "All in, it should be completed at a little bit over £10K !! " Just couldn't figure out what it was about your Rocket that caused it to go over the 10K.

Mark & Ned, i agree with you both! I wanted something different, but its hard now because theres quite a few builds out there. And i dont think im brave enough to have one as bright as yours mark!lol. Still like you said Ned, how many rockets are there really immediately around us?! Its not something your gonna see on a regular basis is it so you might as well go for your fave regardless of how many others have it. The only time they'll all be together is at the shows and even then they'll all be different cos we all have different skills, knowledge and abilities. and then we all have different budgets and tastes. I think i may have come to a decision! Thanks guys. Wayne.

I love the black/carbon and gold look - ;D It's your car and you need to build it how you want it - no two Rockets/Trikes/Sonics etc are the same, even if they have the same frame and GRP colour

Exactly mabbs! There all different. Im going for the gold chassis, gold wheels, black body panels and then carbon bits n bobs. (well pretendy carbon vinyl)! cos money doesnt grow on that bloody tree in the garden!LOL! Apart from the chrome, which stands out on any car, the gold is my fave by far! And it is a lot of money overall so going for my fave regardless of who else has it. P.S. cant wait to see more of your mevabusa mabbs, its gonna be awesome! but... how you gonna take them both to the shows??!! Wayne.
