Been lurking around for a while now, looking at peoples builds etc.
Ive become very interested in the Exocet kit mainly down to cost and the appearance (from comments on here at least) of a relatively easy build... but what I can't seem to find is any definitive costs relating to the build.
I see they reckon you can do it for 2k, but realistically what have people spent?
Has anyone added anything up and got an idea of their costs for a donor, anything recouped from selling parts and costs of any extras and upgrades?
It may be on here, but I've had a reasonable dig about.
I'm assuming 3k for kit + donor and extras bolts etc with a bit back for selling spares or is this a bit light? 4k+ for putting newer/upgrading parts on the car (i guess you could spend a lot here).
Seriously considering buying a kit but just want some perspective on total spend.

Hey Rocky, here's a list of my costs so far....
Kit - £3000 (powdercoated black + harness bar) seats - £170 steering wheel - £30 steering boss - £20 tyres - £220 screws/bolts - £120 hoses and pipes - £50 harnesses - £60 lights - £160 spray/paint - £40 wheel spacers - £60 gear knob+gaitor+surround - £30 carbon effect vinyl - £40 mirrors - £20
I haven't included the cost of the donor as i made that back on the sales of parts. Nor have i included wheels or coilovers as both these items came on the donor car. I had given myself a realistic budget of £4000 before the build and it looks like i wont be far off that when completed.

Hi Rocky,
I could double Mathew's budget of 4k pounds and it still wouldn't cover what I have in my build. However, please keep in mind that I replaced almost everything in my build if it even looked slightly worn. A good example of this is the fact that I have over $800 USD in just fasteners (nuts, bolts, etc.) and some metal to make various brackets, etc. Some of the Mazda specific bolts/nuts add up fast!
I'm very particular and I wanted my car to look like it just came off of an assembly line. I also bought a rust bucket to start with. It was cheap, but there were almost no parts on it that were worth reselling. I also had to pay to have the kit shipped and imported into the US when I got mine. This was long before Kevin started selling them in the US.
I know most people won't go to this extent and I'm sure my build is the vast minority. However, I think you can spend as much or as little as you want with this kit. That's one of the nice things about it...

Thanks guys, I was hoping 4k was a reasonable budget and knew from looking at some of the build sites that you can spend a fortune too!
Just need to get sorted now and hopefully get a kit ordered soon.
