Hi,
I would be real keen for someone to break down a build list into the following groups.
Things that HAD to be bought from RTR. (Suppose this is obvious)
Things that were added to or upgraded from the basic kit from RTR.
Things that are best to be sourced from the donor.
Things that could be sourced from donor but best replaced.
Things that had to be bought on top of this regardless.
Things that were bought because they were shiny / fast / too cool to resist.
For example is it possible to buy just a basic kit and source EVERYTHING else from the donor?
Another example are the wheels, sure the donor has wheels but.....
The reason for this question is that I am sure we all looked at the kits and said to ourselves well only just under 5k for the kit plus 1k for a donor plus 500 for contingency yeah 6k to 7k sounds right, but I out to really take the pedal box and brake options then a really nice set of mags will set it off and then..... well..... it was only 4k over budget but looks real good.
So guys what are your thoughts?
I am tossing up between trying to find as many of the bits from a donor and other sources locally as I can compared with buying a kit in a box option.
I have found out that the Focus did not come into NZ untill 2002 and the 1.8 option was never bought in only 1.6 and 2.0 plus the majority are automatics.
Prices also seem real good in UK on Ebay, for example I saw on Ebay a brand new 1.8 Zetek for the same price as a secondhand well used 1.6 unit over here (admitedly from a dismantler with a limited warrenty).
I kind of have this feeling that I am going to end up paying as much for a donor build as a kit build and have all the grief of trying to find bits.
Cheers
