I've just been trying to dry fit my fuel tank to make sure I haven't put the cooling pipe in the wrong place and having a head scratching moment. From looking at other pics the filler pipe should go between the two chassis members. Mine doesn't seem to go through them or below them. Have a look at the pics below and tell me I'm being stupid please.

Oh you cut yours that far back. Looking at this build then the filler pipe must be at a different angle as it fits between the chassis.

Hi Jon
I didn't want to cut the filer neck to much that it was lower than the top off the tank. I put a dent in the filer neck for it to clear the inner chassis members. I also had to cut some off the lugs at the bottom of the tank so that the tank can move a wee bit to the n/s off the car and butts up to the bottom chassis member. There is some photo's off the filer neck in my build thread.
Hope this helps Andy

Had the same head scratch. As per the other answers, you will need to cut the neck down.

Had the same head scratch. As per the other answers, you will need to cut the neck down. I cut 90mm off it in the end to get it to go in.Need to fit the rear bulkhead before I fix it in though. On your rear bulkhead did you just have a flat sheet of ali or was it formed to go over the chassis cross member ?

Hi Jon
It was formed at the top with two folds to make a channel but not to go over the chassis cross member. The formed higher up than the cross member for the engine cover to rest on.
This was formed and cut to the right height by MEV.
Hope this helps Andy

How did you realise that it was meant to support the engine cover ? I've looked back through the build guide and I can't see a mention of it.

Hi Jon
I think it says in the order that the aluminium panels are cut to size so when it was above the cross member I looked at some photo's in other builds to check I had it right. I only had to cut out the area to slide over the box section on the floor.
Cheers Andy

The pic that you have shown was of my build, the pipe has been cut down to fit between the chassis rails.

I sure helps to look at pics of other builds on the forum to help with your build. I refer to it all the time.

with mine i have just fitted the role bar but now i cant put the tank back in place, for it to fit the tank has to move forward or to the side so it is not hitting the role bar, when i do this the covers for the fuel tank do not fit as the tank is moved, im going to have to get a bit of my tank cut out unless anyone knows the reason for this?

If you are situating the tank behind the seat you will always have this problem. As it is the passenger seat, the loss of an extra inch should not really be of any concern. Photo of mine below:

I cut the top hole in my fuel tank in the centre as per the build guide but it doesn't leave a lot of room for the fuel gauge float to move around.
Anybody found an optimum angle for fitting the pump / float to allow full movement ?
