Finally, the tR1ke project is 99% completed. all documents, taxes, insurance have been completed now and I could take her out to the bike mechanic to have a look at the wet plug issue exept... snow has fallen yesterday thus salt has been seeded on the tarmac. No driving until april 2014. On monday an expert will come to my place to estimate the real value of my build (for insurance purposes). I cleaned up the building garage, stored the tR1ke and got to my ExoR.
Right now it isn't even a museam piece. it's covered in a dark garage waiting to make it's first metres to the bike mechanic.
It occured to me the rear tire runs flat again in about 3 days and the rim needs to be out for inspection later...
br, Erik

Does the trike still not run? So what is the value of the trike? And how does that reflect on how much you are paying to insure it?

Dunno if the tR1ke starts. I haven't even tried For a 20,000euro vehicle, 270 euro/year needs to be paid which is not too bad. In case of theft or fire this value will be paid by the insurance company, not the value of it's age so basically this value has been set for 3 years and the expert will pay a visit again for new value estimation. br, Erik

Cool, sounds like a good price for a yearly payment, I do hope to see some footage of it being driven next year, before I lose my eyesight

Yeah the price is right if you have a 20,000 euro tR1ke, which I don't

So I am just wondering, after spending sooooooo much time with the colour scheme, and extra bits welded not bolted to the frame etc etc.....
Why did you not powder coat the swingarm the same colour as the wishbones?

Hi Nick, Powder coating does show an orange surface which isn't very noticable on curved surface like tubes, but on flat areas this will get ugly easely. I'm pretty happy with the colors I used here: wine red, anthraxite, silver metallic, bare alluminium and black. I did reconsider to paint the bonnet red too. Would have looked more ancient I guess An other reason not to coat the swingarm is the bearings need to be removed and the holes decoated afterwards. Not sure if baking an aluminium swingarm would weaken the structure. Planning to coat your swingarm? br, Erik

Already done mine, was done with rear wheel, floor and firewall, I would say it has had no detrimental effect to strength, a pair of bearings cost £18.
I think it would look nice in the red you picked, and maybe a hint of metallic would take away any edges.

Maiden flight today! It took me quite a while to get me to this point. the tr1ke was finished at februari 2013 but had quite some delays from 3rd partys I hadn't much control on like shipping, MVSA, Dutch leglisation, insurance issues (power and value too high), winter and finally the bike mechanic who struggled to find the source of my starting problems I have been fighting for a long time. Turned out the starter motor was very likely a Suzuki motor which current draw was too high to let the spark plugs have a decent spark. With a R1 starter motor she is fine now and today I took her home. The ride was quite entertaining and rubbernecking. I found the throttle pedal leverage (cable through the square tube) still way to sensitive and needs to be modified to mk3 (cancelled the original routing in an early stage). The brakes need to bed in and aree not of much use when new. clutch pedal leverage seems to be spot on and the gear selector is spot on and very smooth. The rod I used dampens hard shifting very well and makes a wrist protector too. The hard gear shift from N to 1 isn't felt at all. Just like i wanted it to shift. Need to change sprockets because driving away is too hard. I am quite curios how the veterans deal with this. Fuel pump needs to be lowered. It's struggling to pump the fuel upwards at it's original height. Need to relocate the venting valve to the tank cap. The original vent tube location doesn't make sense at all and should be adressed as a design failure IMO. This tube will be closed. Not much pics to show now. Hope to get this sorted within short time notice and get some milage on it! kr, Erik

Oh, need to note I am in need for narrow shoes. The paddle distance it very narrow and got several conflicts with brake/throttle. Quite a hairy experience heading towards the roundabouts...

Congratulations Erik. Glad you finally got it on the road. Sounds like you are going to be doing a few mods. Good luck and enjoy!
