Managed it on the second attempt, very pleased indeed It says the car is producing 97 bhp, i'm guessing that is at the wheels, what sort of power figures has everyone else been getting and does anyone know what the power loss from the fly wheel to the wheels is. Mines a 1.8 btw Got an inspection on the 13th with the DVLA so wanted to know what exactly they will be looking for on the car and if there is anything i should be looking out for. Now off to buy one of those big woolly hats and the warmest coat i can find

I'm more a metric kind of guy (holland) but doesn't it say kW at min so kiloWatt's @ rpm... 97 kW is about 132 Bhp...

thanks for putting me straight on that one. 132bhp isn't bad then for a 16 year old car, in fact better than it started with... Got another head that i have been refurbing and have done a bit of polishing to the ports, reckon this will gain me any power?

Well done that man. They do not dyno the engine during the test, they just put the spec from Mazda. More BHP can can be achieved I am told by using an exhaust cam on the inlet and altering the timing on the belt by 6 teeth. Not tried it myself but it makes sense possibly as the inlet will then stay open a nano second longer. The Exocet race cars have a head skim of up to 60 though to increase compression. That makes a difference but if your belt snaps.... Ouch! Now we need to see a video edit of all your work condensed in to one with the visit to Smiths at one end a smiley drive past at the other.

That is mostly correct, but you have to retard it by 6 degrees and not teeth. Each tooth is roughly 12 degrees, so it is half a tooth. The process is pretty easy and is a good way to net 6-8hp on the cheap. It can be done on both 94-97 and 99-00. 01-05 can't obviously because of the VVT on the intake cam. Realised after i had posted that the power reading was just quoting manufactures figures.
I have 2 heads so may try swapping the cams over.
As for the video's, i got a bit sloppy with the making of them, though i must say that youtube has been messing with them too.... Will get all the concluding of the build footage edited and posted up soon with a little more finese than some of the last ones and plan to make a proper promo of the finished product very soon too:-)

Managed it on the second attempt, very pleased indeed Congratulations mate, feels great when you get that slip of A4 in your hand doesn't it? You beat me by a day in the end, looks like there's a few of us getting to the same point. Being Scottish, I should have realised that booking my appointment on St Andrew's Day was a good omen, but it didn't register at all. To be fair, I thought I was going to fail until the examiner suggested I go to Halfords to get the exhaust trim... Hopefully we'll get to see a few Exocets start to turn up at the shows and meets from next season.
