So, we're well on the way stripping the donor, we're 3/4 the way through removing the loom. All the front is out apart from the 1 big ass section going from the fusebox down to what looks like towards the starter motor. Is there an easy way to get to that, or is it going to be a case of jacking up and attacking it from the underside?

that one splits and goes forward to the starter and also down and along the PPF frame to the battery at the back. the loom splits into a few sections, so take out the easy bits and leave the rest till you take the shell off. push the battery wires through the boot floor and it all stays connected to the subframes. hope this helps,

Certainly does. All the others are removed now, so it's just the pipework. How much is attached to the underside then? Is it just exhaust hangers and brake/fuel pipes?

was a while ago now but from what i remember there's fuel and brake pipes, handbrake cables and assembly, fuel filter, fuel tank, a couple of brake brackets/abs depending on model, a couple of radiator and PAS pipes in the front. the wiring is attached to the subframe and joining power bar.
its fairly safe to lift it up, if somethings still attached youll know about it fairly quickly, just lift slowly!

Ok, what about getting the loom through the firewall by the drivers side? am I missing something here? Should it post through from the drivers compartment through to the engine?

theres a big rubber bung in the bulkhead, if you pop that out most of the loom comes through there, the rest splits off under the car along the PPF frame. the loom splits into about 3-4 sections on a MK1 and 5-6 on a MK2 (i think) so split it and its easy to get out, just make sure you label everything before you remove it, its a bugger to remember 6 weeks later!

hahaha, in typical bloke fashion, force it and make it fit! I think as long as you push each connector through on its own it should fit. worst case get the grinder out and make the hole bigger.
