This is sounding better and better. Three of us camping on Friday and Sat night please.
Mabbs - It would be great to meet your wife and child/ren - Sue always likes to meet a few other halves.
Carbon Bob - do you fancy bringing your bike? I challenge you to a race around the circuit on two wheels!
(Bob has raced bikes at a national level against Hoy, Wiggins etc, - I realise I have no chance, but I guess it's part of the Olympic legacy)
What is the best tyre choice for an auto test - (what is an auto test) - does it require lots of tyre sliding - so best to bring a change to my 888s?
Looking forward to this loads, especially as it is so much more than just a track day
Whoo Hoo

Hi Matt,
RE Autotest:
Think large patch of tarmac or grass and a course around a set of markers that require you to do lots of handbrake turns and flicks. The course is intentionally very tight requiring lots of controlled sliding to get around quickly. It's all 1st, reverse, 1st, reverse, repeat .......... top speed is very slow typically less than 35 mph, but that might also be in reverse gear..through a slalom...
I'm not sure how much of a course could be setup at the MEV facility but even a few tests could be a lot of fun and "training" in "How-to" with our cars.
Even if you have lots of power you still need to reduce your grip all around.
An LSD makes a huge difference when you want to slide the powered wheels, but it's not necessary if you upset the car enough with the steering and brakes and get what power you have down. With an LSD you can just use the clutch to dump the power to the driven wheels as required to slide the driven wheels.
With or without LSD,
Re: Best tyres , the cheapest you can find , less grippy the better , pumped up 40psi to reduce grip as much as possible. Make friends with your local tyre shop and take a used set off their hands with the minimum tread left. Narrower is better.
Pre competition adjustments:
Fit cheap tyres, you don't need grip and they're going to get destroyed pretty quickly.
Make sure your handbrake really works well, can you instantly lock the wheels at 15mph with a tug on the handbrake....
Fit a "Fly off" handbrake or disable the handbrake ratchet by taping a coin over the release button so when you pull the handbrake and just let it go, the handbrake releases. This can be done on the day at the event.
Think about fitting a steering wheel Knob/ball. This will allow you to turn the steering wheel , lock to lock , single handed. I know this is possible with a large wheel and power steering but with a smaller diameter steering wheel , on a quick rack and no power steering, it's a much harder trick. You might find it just gets in the way.
Your gearbox and drivetrain will not thank you for partaking of an autotest. I can't think of an event more likely to find a weakness in the drivetrain or engine mounts.
Some examples of the art;

I felt we should all have a say in the autotest. I have never organised one b4 but we have a load of cones etc. I am having the grass cut at the weekend so we will see if it is smooth enough, failing that we may be able to use our neighbours car park. Cycling sounds a laugh. I will bring a bike or 2 in from home, I will have a penny farthing for you all to try and a uni cycle too!

Hi All,

There should be spare seats in MEV's, otherwise we will have to put MEV stickers on the MX?

It may be quite chilly around Mansfield on Sat as there will be so many cool people in MEV's. If you own a MEV and wish to see what the weather is going to be like before you book then you can just turn up on the day b4 12. Or not turn up if the forecast is not to your liking, shame to miss it though, a water proof coat just in case maybe. Don't let the weather dictate your life.

Will definitly be there rain or shine. Would actually be a great opportunity to test the grip and sliding point of your car in the wet, without fear of any lamppost or gutters... Either way, cannot wait.
