If you are using ford loom and running gear you can only get a charge light by either using the original dash or by using one of the clever boxes that are on here somewhere. Sure someone will clarify this further for you. I used acewell clocks and was lucky as they show voltage so no need for charge light really.. Hope this helps. What was the basic error with the running problem then

Sorry mate just looked for it and if you search using charge light you will find a charge light control box in the for sale section.

Cheers for that scott I will have a look for one later,I was told to wire one side of the warning lamp to one of the alternator wires that gave full current when running and went to earth when stopped then wire the over side to the ignition live so that when when ignition is on but the engine is not running the power flows through the warning lamp and earths out of the alternator then when started the alternater produces the same voltage and turns the light off it all kind of makes sense but dosn't work as none of the wires do that. The problem with the engine was simply one of the spark plug suppressor caps wasn't on properly but from the top it looked ok ,only realised when i took of the manifold and port 1 was still looking like new, wasted alot of man hours on that one.

hahahaha get used to it mate, things you think youve done you end up doing twice or three times been there got the t shirt. I spent a long time recently trying to work out why the brand new ford engine wasnt running worth a jot. Problem was I altered the fuel side to incorporate a swirl pot and added a new low pressure lift pump and associated plumbing. trouble was engine was running absolutely sweet ten minutes before fitting these so they must be the cause? nope the engine decided that one of the plugs could go faulty in the time that it took to change the plumbing. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh. nice new set of platinums fitted now........
