Just thinking about my upcoming build, has anyone placed the fuel tank under the bonnet, I was down at RTR last week and saw Tony's bike engine Rocket and I liked the look of the rocket with nothing behind the seats. by the way the tony rocket looks great, if anyone has done a tank upfront how much fuel does it hold. Thanks

Thanks Hi Chris my tank holds about 30ltrs and possibly could have gone a bit bigger , all i did was to make one out of cardboard and had Luke at rtr to fabricate it. cheers tony.

I have a sonic. Put fuel tank up front in usual place for rad (rad further forward). Also have fuel filler under bonnet. Just passed IVA and no issue at all on location. Worked in basis of getting weight forward. Also put battery up front.

Hi Sonic
Thanks for reply I thought it would be good to have the tank up front just to give the car balance, what radiator size would you say would be good as to work with the 1.8 focus engine.

If you look at the thread "Ideal Radiator - 1.8 Rocket " there is a lot of info and I posted pics of the radiator fitted (and fuel tank). The car has now done a motorway blast plus sat in heavy traffic for 20 minutes after motorway and had no problem with overheating. I fitted the biggest Kenlow 2 speed fan and have not seen the temperature go above 98 degrees. I think this is too cool so need to adjust thermostate on fan to let it run a bit hotter. Im using the ST170 engine so wanted max cooling.
I used the radiator from a VW Golf 1.8 Mk3 (WWW.DISCOUNT-COOLING.CO.UK). only cost about £30. I spent a lot of time looking at radiator sizes before finding this.

I have mounted the standard tank in the passenger footwelland routed the filler out to the side panel through bulkhead as you I thought keeping the rear clear looked neater there seems to be just enough room for passenger legs unless they are 6' 4" or more and I could move the seat back a little more if need be one day soon I might get around to putting some photos up

Carbonbob,
Do you mean through front bulkhead?? As if it comes out the side it maybe interpreted As filling from the passenger compartment which is not aloud for IVA,,
But if your through to the front bonnet or side you should be ok,, Pictures would be good,,
