Hello, I'm Steve and I'm thinking about building an eTrike but if possible could someone answer a few questions first before I buy the plans. I'm not a newbie by any means to the kitcar world. I've built a DNA360 and I'm now on with a Extreme Lambo. I also run both the owners clubs / forums for DNA/Extreme. This however appeals to me as it's something very different.
The idea would be to use it to travel to work and back... (round trip of 15 miles) so;
1. Would this pass the IVA or whatever it's called now? 2. Insurance? normal footman james etc provide cover? 3. Do you need a helmet? 4. Will it go backwards (reverse polarity)? 5. Has anyone made a road legal one yet? 6. Is it free to Tax it?
I would be able to manufacture the frame without a problem :-) I have access to batteries and love playing.
Many thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
Probably not been answered as people would not want to give the wrong answers / Incorrect Information,
Stiggy really needs to reply which I'm sure he will asap, if not email him direct info@mevltd.co.uk
If its similar to the Eco-Exo then it will be MSVA test, Insurance through Adrian Flux / Bikesure, no helmet needed but sometimes advised!! thats all i can tell from what i know,
Cheers Scott

Hi Scott, many thanks for the info. I went ahead and purchased the plans this afternoon and they were soon received :-)
I've had a good read through them and I'm now searching bits / prices to see if I can get an overall build cost. I already have some batteries but unsure if they would be suitable. There 12v gel type about 28kg each and have a 92amp rating from memory. Big backup UPS ones, I have 6 of them so thats 72v.
Motor / Controller I'm looking at £600 - £700 from the states through eBay. I'm unsure if I'm going to design everything from scratch on Inventor at work or go with the parts recommended. I need to justify it's going to be worth it when I can buy an electric scooter for £800 all in.
cheers
Steve
