Hi all, I just thought I'd breifly let everyone know about how my first weekend on the road in the Rocket has gone!... I got the reg plates made up and fitted last friday and have now completed over 200miles!!! First comments: I have to say, the Rocket is great great fun especially in the good weather we've been having! Its quite amazing just how much interest you get - just driving around... its quite a head turner! The cars amazingly fast paced; 0-60mph? well, I reckon my 'bog-standard' 1.8 does it in roughly 5-6 seconds - probably faster - but currently the slowest part of the car is the driver, AND I dont want to chip the paint on my new toy ;D ;D I have had a couple of teething problems, nothing bad - just typical 'shake-down' first drive stuff... so hopefully ill be heading down to Stoneleigh next week - weather permitting!... See you all there! (a very sunburnt) Ol

So jealous of you having your car on the road. Have had a pretty relaxed weekend myself (although sun burnt also) and could have gone for a blast on many occasion if it was ready . Will hopefully see your car at Stonleigh. Will be nice to see it in the flesh

I've just been looking a some pictures of your Rocket Mightylad - very nice indeed! I especially like the seats - can I ask where you got them? Are they comfortable for long distance? Nice floor finish too - is it simply painted? I'm not sure yet whether to do something similar or go for the carbon-fibre look as some others have done. Will be interesting to see how the different finishes stand-up to wear and tear.
Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for your comments!! ;D ;D The seats were from a firm called Intatrim based in Telford: www.intatrimtelford.co.ukMy seats were their 'Odyssey' model - very comfortable but still light weight - they are just fibreglass seats, upholstered. The flooring is standard rubber flooring, from car builders solutions i think... don't forget to stick it down though - it has a tendency to take flight out of the car!! Cheers, Ol

Thanks Ol - most appreciated.
Have added both sites to the favourites and spreadsheet for later. The rubber matting is a good idea. I've been wondering if black paint might eventually rub off and also if the carbon-look vinyl might wear too, but rubber should be good.
Cheers, Steve

Steve
Floors are surprisingly difficult. I started with CBS rubber matting but the glue always came off when is got wet. I am now using some rubber workshop floor tiles from Maplin cut with a bevel to fit under the round chassis bar and glued in with sickoflex. Just another option for you. have a look at it in Curborough, are you going?

Hi Mattmev,
Thanks for the tips on flooring - something to look in to further when the time is closer, including finding out how the carbon-look vinyl lasts compared to paint and rubber options.
Not sure what you mean by Curborough. Is that another kit car show? I'll be heading to Detling on 22 May.
Cheers, Steve

Forgive my oblique reference to the Annual Moggers Meet. Its well worth going, a great first track day, you get a couple of laps with the circuit to your self and you can take it at any speed you want.
And you get to meet most of the MEV owners, well worth the effort, even from Surrey
Cheers

I will be going this year! As Mattsmev says, it will be my first run out on a proper track (instead of using the back lanes around the Cheshire countryside! ;D ;D ) The bonus is its only ~30mls for me See you all there! Ol

I won't have my kit until the end of August, but it does sound like a great opportunity to meet other owners and see how they've approached their builds, so I think I'll try my best to get there.
Thanks, Steve
