Delighted to report that the Exocet is easy to get through the IVA test. The usual Seven type kit car issues of brake balance, self centre steering, noise and emissions are not a problem as these are all non altered and type approved courtesy of Mazda. However if like me you have an exhaust leak on the cat flange it will fail due to the emission test sensor reading too much unburnt oxygen. Mine was drawing in air after the lambda but any leak gives the test probe a false reading. Easy to sort though. I have had E1 MEV for sometime. If you have a private plate or desire one, it is best to get it on a retention certificate and register your MEV with your number from day one. Attachments:

Well I have been at it a few years, nothing I have ever designed has failed to get road registered. I was just so pleased to see how easy it was with Exocet. I will go through the procedure with you when you place an order. Regards Stiggy

Hi Stuart, as my kit is nearing completion could you run through the procedure with me. I have retained the log book, ( in my name) got both vin plates ect . its just the paperwork that sounds daunting. regards Ted

The fee is £450, this needs to be sent with the forms or they will send it back. Forms are self explanatory but q's like power can confuse. Best to quote say 115bhp@4500rpm. They use this figure to work out how fast to run the engine for the noise test, don't go to high. Max speed, well how about 100mph. They use this to check your tyres are suitable speed rating. Axle weights, this includes fuel and 2 people, it does not mean the weight of the car, it is the weight it can carry. 500 kgs each axle and total 1000 should be good. They do weigh the car. Train weight is for a trailer, leave blank. Once you get a IAC (individual approval certificate) then you can register it. We suggest builders remove the vin plate from the donor so you don't get cloned. Pictures of your build maybe requested as you will be going to declare an ameature build. They take your donor v5 and give you a plate of the same year and a vin number from MEV as per your chassis plate. It all takes a few weeks though so you should put in the extra time now or you will miss the summer, would be great to see some Exocets at the shows.

Thanks Stiggy. Forms going in the post on monday, Ive got some time off work for a month, so looking at an ASAP date from the Bristol VOSA depot, and hoping they have a space soon. I'm right in thinking I can drive there and back, provided I'm insured as an unchecked amateur build? Is it worth getting an MOT done before hand as a pre test check up? Prob too tight to get it done for stonleigh, but we'll see!

I tend not to drive as I use a trailer and fill the car with loads of bits just in case. Insurance can be done on he chassis number. One last little push then it's time for some fun Alex. An MOT will prove the brakes and gas emissions and alignment of headlights. My car had a very slight fray to a seatbelt and would have failed but I had a spare with me. See you at Stoneleigh

just as a final point, in terms of the sharp edges rule, is it best to just cover all edges with knock on trim, or is it limited to forward facing edges that are on the outside of the car. for example ive gone with a much smaller silencer on the exhaust, meaning the lower parts of the subframe are visable at the back, but cannot be reached unless you physically reach under the car. The IVA manual isnt the simplest to interpret. My understanding is all visable edges, that he/she can reach with a 100 ball need to be covered. edges under the car and set back from the external edges dont need to be. is this correct? my mind is going to explode with IVA information overload!!
