I bought the sonic 7 years ago as unfinisched project. Due to buying a house and kids i never finished the car. In belgium regulations have changed en it will probaly won’t go to put it legally on the streets, it takes to much space so i want to sell it as is. There is an running 1.6 zetec engine in it. It is setup up with lefthand steering rack but i give a right hand steering rack with it. What you see on the picture is what you get, Parts that are still needed: - seats/belts - lights - dashinstruments - hinges for boot and trunk - fuel cap -… There is still alot of assembly work on it as everything is just mokked up to see if it works. Engine, gearbox and brakes work. Im looking for 1500 pounds Car is located in belgium , if there is interest i can bring it on a trailer to dover but i wont do that for free.also there has to be paid 20% vat when bringin it in to the UK See photos link mevowners.proboards.com/thread/8356/build-off-forgotten-sonicPhotos or films can be send on request Contact : kevin.robyn@gmail.com ,

No worries best of luck with your sale, we are currently lucky that IVA still exists but there are many that would like to also see the UK go down the same route. Could you not get it IVA'd in the UK then shipped over?

Hi Kevin,
I think this kit has travelled around a bit. I think it was originally sold in the UK and UK VAT paid at the time.
Do you have the original UK invoice showing UK VAT that the original purchaser of the kit would have had ? That may help with avoiding excessive import duties to the UK. I guess when you took this to Belgium there was freedom of movement for goods and services. I worry that when bringing it back, the UK may want import taxes + VAT applied.
I see there is relief from VAT and import duty for vehicles previously exported from the UK but as it was not registered it will be a head scratcher for the customs official. A VAT invoice on the original sale of the kit may help. It may be that it is not classed as a vehicle as it is not registered anywhere as such. Reading the gov website the import paperwork needs to be done before import or within 14 days, again this seems to apply to vehicles that are registered and therefore recognised a vehicles. It is not clear to me how the customs officials will assess this collection of vehicle shaped parts.
All that said it is an interesting proposition, I am just trying to get clarity on what the costs of getting it back here would be.

Hi Daydreamer
I didn’t think of the vat after the brexit 🫤, I my opinion it is not a car as it stands but parts. I’m checking the rules but i find different things, Mostly it comes to 20% VAT, i could lower my price to 2500 pond So with VAT it comes to 3000 pond, As for paperwork of the original purchaser i cant help, Years ago i contacted Stuart for the invoice but the previous owner changed the chassisnumber so no invoice could be find,
