Good evening everyone. Having introduced myself earlier in the week I though I would ask my first question of you all. Having got my donor, I have started to strip it down. Unfortunately I only have limited space to work in, so will need to sell parts as I go.
I was hoping that those of you who have already done so, could give me some advice regarding the best strategy. It would appear eBay is the weapon of choice, however do you "buy it now" slightly under cutting the salvage yard, as has been suggested in another thread. Do you start an auction at 99p and hope for the best, or do you start at say 1/3rd of your asking priceand again hope for the best.
I look forward to hearing some of your answers
Regards
Alan

Everybody probably has a slightly different strategy. I took advantage of eBay's no-cost listings that were running on the eBay US site during the weeks leading up to Christmas. I ended up starting most auctions at $9.99-14.99 and offered free shipping on most of the smaller (1-5 pound) items. The majority of the items sold the first time I listed them. A few of them I ended up re-listing a few times, but they tended to sell eventually.
I also used craigslist and some of the local Miata boards to list some of the larger items like the trunk lid, doors, stock wheels, etc. Basically anything that I didn't want to deal with shipping.
I still have a few boxes of parts left, but at current pace I am trending to make about 120% of what I paid for the donor car. Having lots of good photos will serve you well.

I just wanted to get rid of my parts, so started most things at 99p, and some (doors etc..) at £9.99. Like anything on ebay, if you dont put a reserve on it, be sure you are happy to sell it for the starting price.

That's really interesting thank you. Avant kiwi, did you get reasonable amounts back for your items? Are you working to the 2k budget? If so do you think you will achieve this using your method above?

I am selling a MK2.5 & working to the £2K budget; my advice;
remove the parts with care. advert to have good photos & compare to the rest of the sellers prices. don't steal photos (ebay tells u off!) research the selling price, and sell a few quid below the 'scarp dealers'. garage & businesses like to purchase on "Buy Now" (thay have usually got a Customer there end to please - i.e. crash repair). quick response to any questions. post the part day you get the money. I have sold a few parts to mainland europe (I assume its because of the ltd edition spec, having desiarble parts for the mx5 fans). Don't dispose of 'unsaleable' parts in a rush, some parts that I would have binned, customers have asked to buy. Pack well.
Currently recovered today = £3,125.16.

Alan,
I am actually building a Sonic, and not an Exocet so my budget (& donor) is different, but the principles remain the same. Good luck with the selling.
