Hi all, back on the build and I've come up against a concern. For those who remember I bought Jason's G Type after he was unable to complete, and I've had some delays to what I thought would be a quick build while I was out of work. Another project came along, which sapped most of my time, so little progress was made.
I've got my eye on a set of 15*8 ET0 wheels, but I'm struggling with tyres. I was going for 225/40/15 but these are now a discontinued size. A mate has 205/50/15 on the same rims, and they fit like a glove, both in the wheel and the car. My concern is that the 'minimum' tyre width for an 8j rim is supposed to be 215. Will this cause an issue with the inspector come IVA time, or would I be better off getting 215/45/15 tyres, and accepting these are on the list to be discontinued too?
Cheers, Kev

Just go and put on standard 15's for IVA and worry about going massive later. You'll need wider arches I think for 15x8

I've already got the G Type wide arches. I guess that is an option though. To be honest I just hate wheel spacers, which is what I was trying to avoid!
Iv asked DVSA technical, and will feed back for the benefit of others.
I think for now I'll knock up a temporary spacer arrangement and see how it looks.

Can't you just get the right et wheel from the suppliers? Saves spacers.

Reply from DVSA, a 205 profile is not allowed on an 8j rim, it's too narrow.
The concern for me is not the wheel offset. I can buy et0 15x8j rims no problem, it's the tyres that are a challenge. Ideally 225/40 but they are discontinued, 205/50 are readily available, but are too narrow for an 8j rim, so the only choice on that width wheel is 215/45 to maintain the correct rolling radius.
I could always go for a 15*7 with et0, but nobody seems to make them.
Looks like I'll be using my 15" enkei rims, with 195/50 and a set of spacers!
Thanks, Kev

Don’t be too concerned about the rolling radius, it doesn’t have to be spot on. As long as the speedo is showing a higher than ‘actual’ speed, you’ll be ok. If you are running aftermarket ECU & display, this can be calibrated.
