Hey, we've encountered a few problems with our build that any help would be appreciated. 1. Battery wasn't charging and battery warning light displayed on dash. Changed alternator still no luck. Only getting maximum 11 volts to battery. checked plug on alternator and we had no power. We tried a wire straight off a ignition live and the battery was getting over 16 volts and the light coming on. We also noticed the reverse light came on strangly when it was wired to anything live with ignition on. We have numerous plugs that are not connected to the car. We were very careful when taking out the loom with our labelling machine but it looks like some may have been missed out.
2. Since wiring all the lights we have had a problem with the indicators flashing to quick. Its ok when the hazards are on but as soon as you move the indicator stalk the indicator flashes fast. We have LEDs on the rear so thought it may have something to do with that. We have double checked earth points are tight. Again we're thinking it may be a plug not connected somewhere.
We're getting to that dredded point now where the light at the end of the tunnel has disappeared and we can't see ourselves finishing this project.
Any help would be much appreciated. Or if anyone has any experience with a similar issue, we are located near Wolverhampton. We are considering a Auto Electrician to take a look aswell if anyone knows of a decent one.
Also anyone know what these plugs are for?

Hello, What model MX5 is this? please update your signature or profile.
The LED's on the rear are causing quick flashing as they do not have the same 'load\resistance' as a normal bulb. You have two options: Buy cheap £3'ish load resistors from ebay to wire in to each light, or chnage your FLASHER relay like I did for £35'ish. I did this as my wiring was all in place and needed a neater solution.
I cant help with first issue, but triple check all earths are neat and crimped and earthed properly on clean metal, Cheers Russ

Hi Russ, thanks for the help. What relay did you go for? Our donor is a Mk2.

Hi There Please see my thread 'Russ Exocet Build - Fleet'.
There are some explanations and links in there for my Mk2.5 VVT. Due to the pins i had to obtain unit from U.S. however i think mk2 units are more widely available on ebay etc, or there is a relatively quick fix to remove one resistor on circuit board in flasher unit and replace.
I could not do this as resistor in mine was not on 'legs', but i think easier on mk2.
Dont lose interest in your build. Sounds like it is nearly there. During my build I booked an auto electrician to visit at his earliest within 3 weeks, but managed to resolve myself before he arrived after a week of double checking everything.
Download a Mellons wiring diagram. Took me days to get my head around it and dismissed it many times, but eventually I kind of understood it and resolved my issue, Cheers

Flasher relay is about £5 from ebay in either 3 or 4 pin

Just for info: Mk2.5 Flasher unit is 7 pin and the pins\blades were in different orientation to those in UK listings, hence U.S purchase.

I had the same issues with the alternator, unfortunately I had already cut the plug Morgster mentions. So I had to rewire the generator plug back to the ECU which solved the problem i think it was a grey wire, check that wire back to the ECU and if it doesn't bell out its the same issue.

Cheers for the advice guys, we're having a break from electrics for a few weeks until the new relay arrives. Back on the mechanical side changing over the water pump. I think once we've got the electrics out of the way its just getting it prepped for the IVA. Just seems to have taken an eternity to get here.
