Hi all,
I'm known on various forums as GM so it seems reasonable to continue with that username here (when I lived in Scotland, I was known as Geordie Mark or GM for short, despite being from Durham so not technically a geordie at all)
Anyway, I've been mucking around with mx5s for about 15 years, over that time, I've not been without one for more than a couple of months so it's fair to say that I like these little cars.
I owned my first mx5 for three years but was tempted away by a Porsche 944 and had to sell the mazda. A couple of years later, I spotted some very recogniseable parts from that very car on the owners forum. It turned out that the car had changed hands a couple of times and ended up with a chap called Toby (I think, it was a while ago) who was breaking it to build, yes, you guessed it, an Exocet ! I needed some bits for my own mx5 so paid him a visit and had a good nosey around his project. The seed was sown, as they say.
Ten years on, a further five mx5s under my belt, many many trackdays, sprints, hillclimbs and autotests done and I find myself thinking about that Exocet again.
And then a few few weeks back, I spotted a local mk1 mx5 for sale at a decent price. I fancied a few parts for my current mx5 so went to see the seller. The rest, as they say, is history.
So so now I own two mk1 mx5s, one of them sits proudly in the garage, the other has already been stripped to bits and the shell scrapped. Time to get serious with this kit car thing
I'm torn between the Exocet and the GBSzero, although probably about 80% convinced to go with the Exocet. What I would like to do is to meet with someone who has built or is going through the process of putting together an Exocet and have a good nosey around their project.
Obviously with covid lockdown this is going to be a challenge but once restrictions are eased, I would love to get in touch with any of you local to Durham and meet up for a blether.
You can have a good laugh at my lardy old mx5 with all its excess weight and bodywork
cheers all,
mark (gm)
