Hi all. Just wondered what other peoples thoughts are on whether it's appropriate to go for a run. I know Boris as allowed us to travel any distance for exercise so i suppose legally were OK, but morally is it right to be seen out enjoying a run when all these people are loosing there lives and NHS staff are going through such a terrible time. my wife ( who was a ICU senior sister) as expressed her concerns both on the above and from a safety point of view being out in a Rocket and being so exposed. I know life as to go on but we all have to be socially responsible at times like this. Any thoughts welcome. thanks John.

I think you know the answer yourself by the tone of your post.
Pleased to read that Boris is addressing the crisis urgently by planning to shortly implement 14 day isolations for overseas visitors!
Mind you I'm only commenting as a viewer from NZ where most of us returned to work today after shutting the borders to non residents seven weeks ago and implemented 14 day isolations for any returning kiwis, stopped non essential travel, limited exercise to true local places.
No new cases for three days on the trot and 21 deaths only.

Exactly opposite is the case Kiwi. Last time i went out was September last year so i'm desperate to get out. Just wondered if others are thinking the same as me or am i out of step with opinion. I hope i am!

Mental health is very important too. I guess you could satisfy your guilt by saying to yourself that taking a car run is essential for exercising your mind and staying sane. At the end of the day what harm are you doing apart from bending the rules. You are not planning to stop and socialise and if you do then it will be at 2 m of course. Wash hands properly after filling up though, I can't imagine what they could find under a microscope on a petrol pump handle. You will of course drive safer than ever as the last place to be is A&E right now.
Kiwi post is horrendous "21 deaths only" is that half the population of NZ?

Kiwi post is horrendous "21 deaths only" is that half the population of NZ? Ha ha that's new 😂 However adjusted for actual per capita figures we would have less than 300 deaths if we had the UK population, that less than a day's worth for you guys isn't it?

You will certainly have less chance of infecting or getting infected than if you went to a supermarket, garden centre etc which you are allowed to do. From what I have seen (not much personally as I am staying home) but many people are not abiding by social distancing. My wife tells me that people in supermarkets lean over people to reach things, cough on things and just walk right by each other etc. Some people are just plain areseholes, stupid or both. Get yourself out John. If you are just driving about and not having conact with others you can't infect or get infected.

I’m using mine to go to the shops etc. If I’m going out, I’m driving it! Just add on an extra couple of fun-miles and shop in the next town.

Continuing as devil's advocate or spoilsport depending on your viewpoint I am sure there are many others in similar forums missing their own personal fixes, asking the same questions and justifying it to themselves on the grounds of "what harm can it do if I.........." You have to ask yourself if it is truely essential in order not to starve etc. As for mental health, it sure is important. So go find someone who has lost their job and has a wife and kids to support and a mortgage to pay and offer them a ride in your Rocket to help ease their mental anguish.

I think most people don't realize the only point of lockdown was to protect the NHS, so that it wasn't unable to cope with demand. It was not to save lives. You have a moral duty to protect others, so act like you have COVID and don't risk others. Driving your car, whether it's a mile or 1,000 miles will not infect anyone.
