Hi, I’m a newbie and have not long been in possession of the Exocet. I’m looking at either turbo or supercharger options/advice.
This car is the 1.8. I’ve seen a few turbo conversion kits out there one in particular is a full setup and fitting (dyno etc) at around £3400. I like the idea of a supercharger as no lag but I’m not clued up on the Mazda engines tbh. Also would I be crazy for adding throttle bodies on either of these or is it even possible?
Cheers guys

Cheers guys I have agonised over the whole thing myself...my opinion is; Turbo brings more power and probably easier to fit. More mappable and easy to upgrade for bigger power as time and money allows. Standard engine cant take turbo power for long. The boost spike could easily bend rods so turbo=engine rebuild first easily makes 200 - 240BHP with supporting mods SuperchargerEasy to fit, no oil or water lines to plumb in Moore progressive power so easier on a standard engine and less likely to bend rods Without doubt the noise a supercharge makes on boost is screamingly beautiful and suits the cars looks!!! Power is limited but can be overcome with pulley changes, methanol injection, cams etc Easier to drive in the wet if inexperienced driver, less urgent Might not fit without cutting the bonnet and making a power bulge easily makes 180 - 220BHP with supporting mods I have a 1.8 with the mk2 non vvt head so better breathing engine. I have a M45 Jackson Supercharger kit, ecu, water/air intercooler, sensors, ecu…..yet I haven't fitted it. I love the idea of the turbo and if I raced one that's the only way to go. But for a Sunday driver and occasional trackday then I am starting to think Supercharger is for me.....although I may change my mind!! Finding a supercharger kit could be quite difficult too, turbos are everywhere. If buying of new of either look at Bofi racing for guide prices and talk to Freaky Parts before you buy. He has much more experience than me.

I know its from the US market, but you might want to check out the recent forced induction video posted on YouTube by Keith Tanner of Flyin' Miata. Video is about 1 hour long, and (although I have not watched much of it yet), looks like it goes into the pros / cons of super vs. turbo. If it is anything like what FM has posted in the past, it will be highly detailed.
FM is based on Colorado (USA), and is well respected as one of the best sources of Miata (and therefore Exocet) powertrain mods. I'm actually just completed swapping in a stronger 1.8L Torsen diff and related bits into my 1.6L powered Exo in preparation for an anticipated installation of the FM turbo kit myself.
Hope this helps ...
