Hi all, hope everyone had a great Christmas!
I have a question regarding bushes. I know there has been a lot of debate, but not seen anything about these.
Duraflex offer an option of helix-spiralled Ali crush tubes, to allow for grease retention. Energy suspension do similar, but in the bush, which people seem to like. They also offer a Nano-particle option, which they say adds lubrication qualities, but not sure if this is snake oil?
Anyone got any experience with these? With both options a full set comes in at £140, which seems good value?
Cheers
Adrian

Hi Adrian,
I have put bushes in a good number of cars. I have only ever had one or two squeak the rest were fine, although they were mostly competition cars so not that much road use. If you put enough grease in them and keep the jet wash away they seem to last longer.
This time I have gone for Energy Suspension from Bofi Racing (when on offer). I bought extra silicon grease from Amazon and have now rebushed my MX5 NA Supercharged track car and the Exocet. They seem like a very good option. Since the Exocet is so easy to work on and we have plenty of days where they sit in the garage in winter, I think I will use that time to repack the bushes if needed as they come apart quite easily.
A word of warning....don't get the grease on you or your tools or its there for quite a long time....its good stuff!
They all wear out eventually and will need replacing. I am sure there must be benefits to some of the snake oil products but for a low mileage kit car, it isn't worth extra costs of extra special grease. I think its all about fitting them correctly in the first place.
Since the bush flexes on the solid pins I think a lube channel might be better in the bush than pin as the flexing will push the lube around and help stop them drying out and getting noisy.
Energy suspension do seem to have come up with a nice balance of compound for road and race use. They give plenty of feedback through the chassis without giving me double vision!
Like I said, just my opinion and something to consider....everyone will feel differently.
Cheers,
John
