Great day racing at Silverstone in the 750MC - Sport Specials Championship. I qualified 5th for both races and Race 1 was going well, I was up to 4th at one point. Then while carving through to lap some of the back markers, one turned in on me snapping the N/S track rod. I carried on up Hanger Straight only to find the issue on the next right hander... off into the gravel! After getting the car recovered back to the pits, the team set about pulling racks apart to replace the damaged part. Why Mazda chose to change the thread on the Mk2 steering rack, only they'll know. Micky fired up the welder and did a grand job of sticking it back together! Just before the start of Race 2, a deluge of rain hit Silverstone, even rivers running down the pit lane, but as we're hardened racers, we threw the wet tyres on, softened the suspension and made our way to the assembly area. Never mind about the 2 green flag laps we were given to get used to the conditions, canoes would have been more helpful! I got a decent start and was up to 3rd by turn 2, then spent the next couple of laps chipping away at Andy and Martin finding more and more grip. When we caught up with the back markers, Andy hesitated and I went around both to take the lead! The rest of the race was spent avoiding spinners, back markers and lakes on the track but pulled a decent gap to win by nearly 14 seconds! That made it my first ever win in the Sport Specials championship I obviously couldn't have done it without the team effort to get the car fixed and for Sylv in allowing me to run the only set of wets we bought along 😘 The footage was streamed live, but for those who didn't tune in, or want to relive the races, they're available on Youtube here: Race 1 Race 2
