Can someone clear this up for me?
I have a road legal MX5 Mk2. So I don't believe I need a VIC check.
Once I've got the body off, and the nice scrap dealer takes it off my hands, is that the point when I technically scrap the car on the V5?
What will I need to present at IVA to prove the provenance of the mechanicals? Just some photos, or should I also take a photocopy of the V5 with me?
Whilst I'm at it, does that mean the newly registered Exocet (past IVA!) will get the old registration from the MX5?
Thanks muchly.

I cut out the VIN plate and kept it and the V5 for the MX5 just in case.
Couple of gypsies took the shell away to the scrap man.

I would agree with Andy888 post
cut out the chassis numbers with pics of you removing them from your shell
Declare your donor as being sorn, and then keep the V5 for when you go for analysis
Weigh in your body for scrap.
If you declare your mx5 scrap then you are likely to end up with a Q plated car, as the records at DVLA will say your engine and chassis were form a scrapped vehicle.
I dont know about the exocet but I guess it is the same as others, your car will not get the same number plate as your donor vehilce but should get an age reated plate to that of your donor vehcile.
hope this helps.

Thanks both, very useful.
One more question (hopefully the last)
Does that mean the V5 trail continues on to my new car, but with new chassis and registration numbers? Otherwise I will keep getting SORN reminders for a car that no longer exists. How do I tell the Govt that the old car is dead and buried and close off the old V5?

I dont know specifics as the kits I have built do not share the same chassis so may have differnet rules. I am sure someone more knowledgable than me will correct me if need be.
However, once the cars I have built, you take them after IVA with VOSA to DVLA for Build Up Inspection (BUI - biggest con of all registration!) at this point you will hand in your V5 as being the donor cars V5. DVLA are then meant to deal with this and scrap it on their records.
Advice to anyone doing this, make sure at your BUI that they do! I have ahd experience twice now that the dvla office has not scrapped the vehicle and I have had to then write a letter with details fo the kit registration etcfor them to stop sending me letters and charging me for not notifying them!
hope this helps

just to take this on step further...
would you be able to put a private plate on the car is you've been given a age related plate?
thanks

just to take this on step further... would you be able to put a private plate on the car is you've been given a age related plate? thanks Yes, on the same basis as you would normally. Just to recap whats been said before:- 1. Sorn your MX5 2. Keep your V5 don't declare scrap 3. Cut out chassis numbers 4. Take lots of photo's of you stripping the car 5. Photograph it going to the scrap yard (with number palates on, but remember to take plates off after photos) 6. Get weighbridge scrap receipt with vehicle identity via numberplate on. Armed with original V5 in your name, Sorn letter in your name, Scrap Receipt in your name and plenty of photos backing up your story you should have no problems, just make sure that your donor engine number matches your V5, and that the engine number can be easily read, as it will be checked on build up inspection. nigel

Yes, you would need to repair/replace the lights for the VIC check.
