There are lots of different wheels fitted on MX5's, some will fit. We recommend that 32mm wheel spacers are used, these cost £12 a pair from Rally Design. I tell everyone this. We supply a range of bolts, p clips, brake pipe etc. If you did not get these items I would appreciate it if you contacted me direct to state your shortages. I am always here to help. The Exocet is a very low cost build. When you have finished it will be worth far more than you paid for it. The bolts we do not supply can be taken off the donor but there will inevitably be the odd tube of sealant or selftapping screw that you need to buy. You will need bonnet catches too and no doubt a few other items but at £2200 we cannot include any more, it's fantastic value, you know that, that is why it is selling like hot cakes.

Gents,
Is this the right place to be getting into a discussion about a conversation between seller & vendor ?
The Excocet has to be one of the best value kit cars on the market. The website for information sharing is excellent, and I have found both fellow builders & Stuart more than obliging in sharing information & making technical hints & tips, as our build progresses.
I have a fully itemised spreadsheet with all costs, including replacement parts (track rod ends, anti roll bar links, brake pads, discs, rear lower wishbone bolts, etc, etc), car improvements (poly bushes, jubilee clips, mirrors, wheel spacers, bonnet catches, engine hoses, stainless bolts, oil filler cap, K&N, brake & clutch lines, steering wheel & boss, valve caps, etc, etc), tools & the expected IVA costs.
So to conclude, on a positive note, we are on target to build the car for less than £2,000, and I have no quibles.

When i met stiggy at the kit car show in exeter he said 3 times that as long as i had a complete mx5 and his kit i will be able to build the excocet without having to spend anymore money . i am now at the stage where i am trying to fit the wings and the brackets do not fit the wheels in fact they are 50mm out. it would seem that i either have to buy after market wheels or spacers and studs as it happens i am getting some different brackets made which will set me back another £50 . i estimate that i am going to have to shell out another £150 on bolts, brake pipes , p clips , rubber edging strip and rivets etc of which i was under the impression came with the kit . surely a few mx5 bits on ebay will soon pay for wheel spacers and odd bits? worth a go anyhow

there are a few tiny bits that may need to be purchased, and if like me you want to be thorough, then a few replacement parts are also needed, but the kit is very comprehensive and also allows for a lot of individual creation.
Mines nearly finished and the extra ive spent has been comfortably covered by selling of parts on ebay.
If you wanted to buy a vehicle thats very easy to build and has all the parts and requires no skills, may i suggest lego or meccano.
Its a kit car, and part of the fun is the building, manufacturing, info sharing and problem solving.
I have no complaints at all, and ive pretty much finished.

I see your point Paul, when I started looking at kits I wanted something that had everything included. However that kit from Caterham is a touch under £20,000. So that's why I'm here. This forum has told me so much that I firmly believe I can plough on into this with as much confidence as with a full Caterham kit, and without having to take out a second mortgage.
As Alex says, the fun is in the building, and solving some of those tricky problems yourself is extremely rewarding.

Thank yourself lucky you didnt need to get the grinder or welder out as is the case with many kit car builds!

Without quite a few of the bits you have mentioned my spreadsheet is around £4500. Add on things like cool seats, harness, suspension, cambelt and waterpump change etc and I am am reckoning nearly £6k complete on the road.

Wow i didn't expect to stir things up quite this much , not sure that i have actualy made my point . I am realy enjoying building this kit and understand that you need to spend extra for personal preferences such as poly bushes , shocks etc and that no two builds are the same but i am finding it frustrating that when i put time aside to work on the car i have to stop because i need to buy parts that i wasn't told about. perhaps there should be some paper work with the kit that outlines the build and informes you of other integeral perchases. No disrespect to stiggy but as you are 250 miles away i shant perchase my shortages from you as i can get them closer to home .

Andy, Spot on, when I started the project I took a different view to Stuart on buying a 20year old car, my the stating point was a Cat D salvage 2004 Euphonic (with lots of options that people will pay for...). My E-bay sales profit as of today is £2,697 (this amount includes reduction for postage charges), still left to sell £2,100 of parts (could be higher). My estimated cost to build is £6,400 ( I could have knocked £750 off this amount with avoiding replacement parts & upgrades). Today's estimate build cost to me is £1,646 (including IVA @ £450 , but I am sure I will buy a few more bits and bobs), thats why I quoted on track for £2K. Hope that helps (& also explains why I have posted links to salvage MX-5's on the board) Tim

Let me know if I can help Paul. I have now got longer bolts in stock for the rear subframe if you need any. We supplied 80mm long but thanx to Sean pointing it out we now supply 90mm x4. Paul,
The nuts, bolts, rivets, p clips, etc are parts that came with the kit. The kit was part of the manifest that I signed for on collection...
