It’s mid engine rwd. The front end of the focus is in the rear of the Rocket so the engine is mounted transverse with the gear box next to it and drive shafts (technically half shafts) either side...no prop shaft or separate differential.

I have in my Sonic and others have in their Rocket s. It fits fine, just might need engine mounts shifting. One big thing to look out for though is the shifter. With the mtx75 you need an ib5 shifter, two LONG mgf shifter cables (not an mgf pair) and some new brackets. With the ib5 box you just need an mtx75 shifter.

This will depend entirely on which engine/gearbox your chassis was built for. AFAIK, IB5 was the default for RTR. I had them do mine with mount points ready for the ST170/Getrag gearbox, and it works grand. Other than not being exactly parallel to the rear of the car and the need for a custom exhaust manifold, it's perfect At the time I was scared of welding, but if you have a grinder, welder and big stones, you can just move the offending article.

With the ib5 box you just need an mtx75 shifter. Does that mean that its not just the MK2 Mondeo that needs to be used for the IB5, can we use a 2.0 focus shifter instead as they are easier to find?

I believe it will, but suspect that it’s a plastic frame if I remember correctly. That makes it harder (but not impossible) to adapt.

The only absolute certainty is that the shift direction must be the opposite of the one your donor gearbox used. So if the pivot point is below the part the cables attach on your donor (Getrag/ST170/Mondeo MKII), then you need one where the cables attache above the pivot point (Focus 1.8). The rest is just about making sure the throw of the lever up and down, left and right, can cover the full range of inny-outty your gearbox needs. This is why I lost reverse on my car; I had the rod that should do left-right attached to the cable for up-and-down, and welded my cable mount accordingly. This is the full range of things that the Getrag gearbox needs to be able to do to get all the gears. I think. Essentially the cable needs to be able to push or pull the selector on the GB end into each of these combinations of positions, which mine no longer does. I have a week off coming up, so the plan is to find all 6 forward gears and reverse then.
