Hi
I noticed a mev rocket sell for 5k on the classifieds 2011 1.8 zetec… Mint car low miles. Nothing special in terms of spec or looks. seemed so low.missed it by a few hours. seller seemed genuine.
What do the Mev Rockets sell for…was that a one off bargain. Would be ideal to get one between 5-7k if that’s the norm.
Just sold my 470 bhp vx220. Misses says ive got 5k to spend on a car. Looking for something rough. Wont stay standard for long, im looking for big power :0)
How does the MEV Exocet compare to the rocket. Are they around the same kerb weight? What is the kerb weight?
Exocet seems cheaper to buyer.

I think a lot is in the eye of the beholder, whilst in some ways they are the same the two models seem to attract different buyer types.
Personally I prefer the look of the Rocket styling over the Exocet BUT I must admit I do like the look of the new G Type Exocet and would be tempted if I were building again.
The Rocket is lighter, mine is reasonably typical at around 580kg, I think the Exocet is above 700kg but don't quote me on that. On the other hand getting more power into an Exocet seems easier and cheaper.
Exocet is easier to build than a Rocket for equivalent level, eg you can make an Exocet with more power and bling so increasing build complexity but the 'equivalent' blinged out Rocket will be harder still.
I cant be sure as there are always bargains but your budget seems low to me for a Rocket, if you are lucky you might find a part finished kit from someone who got bored, had an argument with the wife, just "needs" to sell for whatever reason. However I would be anticipating closer to 10k as a starting point and then that will be cheap. However I could be wrong and if you are patient you may be lucky.
Reckon though that this is a good time to start looking due to the onset of winter, you never know you might find a half finished kit from someone who had an argument with their wife on Christmas Day over the credit card bill she ran up!

The 2015> Exocet is lighter than earlier versions and can be less than 600 kg. There is lots of weight saving options to consider;
18" wheels with 225 tyres will probably be a lot heavier than 15" with 185's. Hubs and calipers can be alloy instead of forged steel. Seats can be grp or heavy padded recliners. Tank can be alloy instead of the steel one. Engine swaps are also possible that can impact on weight. Splitters and spoilers with mounting hardware will increase weight and drag. Turbo or superchargers with brackets, belts and inter coolers will add weight. Little lithium batteries can offer a significant weight saving. A CDS roll cage and steel floors add significantly to overall weight.
The new Exocet G-type based on a MK3 MX5 will be awesome. The NC has alloy bones, alloy uprights and an alloy 2.0 engine.
Cost, well consider that with Exocet you only need to add a kit to an MX5 and that is about it. Build any other kit car and you will need to sink thousands more into items such as a pedal assembly, wiring harness, calipers, shocks, springs, master cylinders etc. etc. etc.
The Exocet is 50-50 balanced, exiting corners is therefore quicker than a rear engined Atom.
Consider an MX5 as being something like 50% heavier than Exocet, the reward in performance is easy to imagine, if you have a quick MX5 and convert it to an Exocet it will probably be 30% quicker, and it will stop quicker.
There is no set weight figure, BUT talking of figures, mine is being trimmed in readiness for the spring, no point in emptying your pockets on parts to save weight when you can just lose a few pounds by eating lettuce with a sprinkling of dust. NO GARNISH !

really kicking myself for not snapping up the 5k rocket, looking around seems like a one off bargain.
